Checked out of our Glasgow hotel at 9am and began our drive to Carlisle. We had hoped to stop at the border for some pictures and at Hadrian's Wall on the way but there was no real stop at the border and
we turned off the M74 at the exit before Hadrian's Wall! We arrived at our B&B, Howard House, at 10.30am which was a bit early but after a short wait the room was ready.
We dropped off our bags and drove out to Birdoswald Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall. We walked around the ruins of the fort which they are still excavating. Drove back to B&B via the West Bank Turret of Hadrian's Wall.
We then walked into Carlisle city centre to the tourist information centre for some souvenirs and local information. Walked down to Carlisle Cathedral which was magnificent with medieval ceiling and paintings. Continued on to Carlisle Castle where we got great views of Carlisle from the top of the tower.
Walked back to B&B for a rest and to check on the latest soccer scores before heading out for dinner at
5.30pm. We ate at Sloppy Guiseppe pizza which was a little bit expensive.
