Checked out of our Bath B&;B at 9am heading towards Salisbury after negotiating the detours around road closures on the A36.
Turned off towards Stonehenge. Very crowded, the most crowded sight we had been to so far. A fence kept you a fair distance from the stones themselves and the noisy crowd kind of detracted from the atmosphere a little. Still an awesome site and plenty of photos and video.
Drove on further to Avebury and the stone circles that surround the town. Lots of hippies, druids
and unemployed people sitting around made the town feel a bit weird. As the site was so spread out you could walk amongst the stones.
Drove onto the M4 heading towards Heathrow, stopping at a service centre for lunch which was more like a small shopping centre! Continued on stopping at Windsor Castle. Castle was very crowded again. Walked around castle grounds and toured the State Apartments with their extravagant decorations. Walked out of the apartments to be greeted by rain so decided to leave and head to our hotel near Heathrow, Fox and Pheasant in West Drayton.
Dropped our bags off in our room above the bar and went down to the service station to fill up the car for an early morning return to the rental company at Heathrow then returned to hotel for a rest.
Went to dinner at 6pm in the hotel restaurant where we met some other Australians. Spoke with them until 11pm over dinner. An impressive carvery and dessert. We packed and organised our bags for the flight to Dublin in the morning then got some sleep.
