Checked out of our Manchester hotel at 9am and drove to Chester (see previous entry!) via M56.
Drove on to Shrewsbury arriving at our B&B, Fieldside, at 1.30pm. Unpacked and then got in the car and drove out to Wroxeter Roman City. Walked through the impressive ruins with our audioguide. They are still uncovering more ruins in the nearby fields so the size of the city was amazing.
Drove back to our B&B and then walked in to the town centre, which was a good 10 minute walk. Went to tourist information and booked our accomodation for the next night in Aberystwyth. While waiting for the booking we walked through the town to Shrewsbury Castle. Took in the views of Shrewsbury and surrounds from the top of the castle tower.
Walked back to B&B via Gay Meadow, home ground of Shrewsbury Town FC. Dropped off our backpacks and went to White Horse pub down the road from our B&B for dinner. Good food and quite cheap. Back to B&B for a rest and some soccer on TV.

Christine Shrewsbury Abbey not Cathedral!!!
parishioner Shrewsbury Abbey as photographed is Church of England and is not a Cathedral. Shrewsbury Cathedral is the Cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury situated on Town walls. It was designed by Pugin. The Abbey church is medieval in origin.
