Checked out of our Edinburgh hotel and drove over the Forth Bridge on our way to Inverness. Stopped off at St.Andrews (see previous entry) before getting onto the A9 stopping at Blair Castle very briefly as we were running out of time to get to Inverness. Arrived in St.Andrews from Edinburgh and visited the Old Course at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. Walked along coast to St.Andrews Castle. Looked around the ruins which included 17th century siege mines which you could go into at your own risk. They were very narrow and slippery so we had a quick look then moved on! Shell's Birthday !! After breakfast at the hotel we caught the bus to Princes Street in the city. Walked down to tourist information for a city map then went to nearby internet cafe to send and read some emails. We switched seats so Shell could type an email and were told quite abruptly by the owner that we'd have to pay an extra 80p if Shell typed...we swapped back and they didn't get their 80p!! Checked out of our hotel and began our drive to Edinburgh. Drove along Hadrian's Wall to Corbridge hoping to visit Corbridge Roman Site arriving at 9am only to find it opened at 10am! Continued on our journey stopping at the Scottish Border at Carter's Bar. Took some photos and video then continued on to Jedburgh.Arrived in Jedburgh and visited Jedburgh Abbey. Left York at 9am and headed for Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Stopped in Durham on the way to look at Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle. Looked around the cathedral which was free and then went to visit the castle only to find it was booked for a private function!!
