Checked out of our hotel and began our drive to Edinburgh. Drove along Hadrian's Wall to Corbridge hoping to visit Corbridge Roman Site arriving at 9am only to find it opened at 10am! Continued on our journey stopping at the Scottish Border at Carter's Bar. Took some photos and video then continued on to Jedburgh.
Arrived in Jedburgh and visited Jedburgh Abbey. Specacular ruins in a nice, quiet town. Lots of photos and then a coffee and cake at Simply Scottish cafe. Drove on to Lauder and Thirlestane Castle. Greeted by very friendly man at front gate, after a good chat we moved on and went for a guided tour of the castle. More of a mansion now than a castle as it had been altered over the centuries but worth a look inside.
Kept moving and headed further north towards Edinburgh arriving at Express by Holiday Inn hotel at 2.30pm. We decided to stay in a more expensive hotel here as our stay coincided with Shell's birthday. Checked into our room and then walked over the road to Royal Yacht Britannia. Went on a tour with audio guide (£6.75 each) which was interesting in that you could see how luxurious the yacht was for the royals and cramped for the staff!! Finished the tour at 4pm after buying some delicious fudge from the Britannia kitchens.
Walked around the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre for a while then back to hotel for a rest. Went to dinner at Palace Chine chinese restaurant in Ocean Terminal which was nice but not a huge meal! Had a coffee and cookie at Starbucks to fill the gap and then back to hotel.
