Today I left DNC.
After the most horrible night of tossing and turning in the bedroom furthest away from mine, due to a slight (almost fainting) fear of a cat-sized rat in my room. Leaving rat droppings everywhere, including on my clothes. How it got there I have no idea, and I don't really want to find out!! So that was my night - a sleepless one with the fear the rat will kill me in my sleep. I'm not joking.
When I woke up though, I felt somehow awake. Maybe still the tonnes of adrenaline running through my body... But I went downstairs in time for an 8am breakfast. Turns out that it's a holiday (again) today and tomorrow so no school. Which means breakfast at 9. Which also means that I was starving!! But we got our rice, and I wolfed it down. I was talking to one of the boys and he was saying that today would be the easiest day to leave out of the days of this weekend... So after breakfast I packed up everything, shaking every single item to make sure the rat wasn't there. It didn't take me long to pack everything up, as everything was in one room, apart from the occasional item like my toothbrush.
I also sorted out the bits and pieces for the kids - a colouring book, stickers, felt to make puppets, paints etc. and either handed them out to the kids, or put them downstairs where the rest of the paint is (supposed to be).
By then, it was time for lunch - the wierd dry flat rice stuff with spicy veggies. Not the greatest for my last meal at DNC, but it still went down and settled my hunger.
After lunch, some of the boys decided they want to play cricket. It started out with small hits in the driveway of DNC, then they got out the cricket stumps and headed to the field which was now bare due to the collection of rice earlier in the week. The ground was stodgy and squishy, and there were patches of hard roots everywhere. That didn't stop them. They played for ages!! A lot of them had really good bowling arms, and some were good at hitting it far!! I got dragged into it, and managed to hit a four!! I was very impressed with that!! I also scored the winning point for my team, yay!! The game stopped quickly when the ball was hit deep into the bushes on the hill - far out of anyone's reach. So we all headed back to the building.
After about a half hour, the taxi arrived to take Michael and Rosie back to Thamel, and they said that I could share, very kind. Michael has also offered me his spare room above Gaia Restaurant for the night. I'm going to try look around for somewhere to stay tomorrow, fingers crossed cheap with wifi and, most importantly, HOT SHOWERS!!!!
