Today there was only one kid not going to school, for some unknown reason. The rest, including Ayog and little Kumar, went off to school at 9ish. Mark and I decided to go into Thamel for a few hours, so asked Shanti didi which bus to take. The bus cost 50rps which is the foreigner rate, but still only 30p or something, for a half hour bus ride that's pretty good!!
We managed to get off at the right stop, however walked for at LEAST half an hour, trying to find Thamel. We finally found it, then went off in separate directions. I went to try find the Sacred Valley Inn, where I was going to see Ailsa, Lily's (very good friend from Nepal!!) mum, who I haven't seen for years!! Finally found it, after asking about 9 different people in shops. None of them knew it, but I found it on one of the back streets. I will probably never be able to find it again!! I saw an award in the reception that was for 2013 trip advisor award, so congratulations Sacred Valley Inn!!
So, I saw Ailsa!! Was very glad to see a familiar face, especially one I haven't seen in so long!! We sat down in the rooftop restaurant at her hotel, and I had beans, sausages, and chips. Oh, and brownie and icecream. Which was DELICIOUS!! Glad to not have dal bhat!! We chatted for ages, then she showed me to all the good places in Thamel, including a DVD shop (pirated of course) where she buys all the films for her hotels. The man in the shop knows Ailsa well, and gives her (and me yay!!) a discounted price. He also honestly says which copies are good and which are terrible. Which he wouldn't do to any passing tourist!! The price for one DVD was 125rps - about £1 or just under. I bought 5 of them for the older boys at the centre who always seem to be watching films!!
Ailsa then left me to get back to the hotel, and I wandered round a bit, bought 2 pineapples, then got a taxi back to the centre.
The kids had only just got back from school, so they cut up the pineapples and I handed them around. Some were very cheeky and followed me everywhere, but some were "normal" haha!! They never get fresh fruit, so they always enjoy it!!
After pineapple, it was homework time. This time, everyone was actually doing homework. But asking me to do it all for them... Cheeky little monkeys.
More rice, then I went upstairs to call the family :) I was going to skype but guess what. Internet isn't working again. Apparently they had a repairman in yesterday but they obviously didn't do a very good job... After the family, I phoned my favourite person in the world, Liam. To those who don't know, Liam is my boyfriend of almost 11 months, and is joining me out in Nepal for 2 weeks from 17th November yay!!
Just a quick thank you to all those who have congratulated me on my places at uni (reading and liverpool), and hello to everyone who's reading this!! I've heard my grannies are reading too, so hello Granny J and Granny Buffy!! More posts to come!!
