Lots of things happened today!! I'll write you a list:
1. It's Daisy Bendrey's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAISY!!!!) so i hope everyone remembered ;) sorry daisy that I couldn't FaceTime you, they decided to switch off the internet (again grrrr)
2.i corrected another one of Lachhi's documents, this time 9 pages long. But the annoying thing was, the first 4 pages I had already done yesterday, but he hadn't copied the corrections over. Oh well. It took me about 45 minutes to do that (I think...)
3. They asked me for an advance on my payment for staying here... Odd because they've never ever asked anyone to do that before. So I said no and said I don't have any money with me (which is true, I don't have enough in cash for an advance)
4. I waited "half an hour" (an hour an a half) for the taxi to take me into Thamel and Lanzipat, but he arrived finally and was very nice about it all
5. I finally sorted out my return flights!! I had to pay an extra $32 for the change, but I managed to get the last seat on the plane Liam is returning on, and they even got me a seat next to him yay!! So I'm very relieved now, and I feel much less stressed!!
6. I found out a few things when taking a rickshaw - I MUST wear a sports bra (even worse than a taxi!!); never pick the old sweet looking driver - he will run out of steam and have to push instead of cycle. I got very embarrassed!! And felt hugely overweight; they charge Nepalis and foreigners different amounts. 50rps extra, which is about 30p so I wasn't fussed.
7. I ate momos for the first time in YEARS!! Well, in Nepal at least!! Made them at home, and had them in Yak Yeti Yak in Bath (a restaurant for those who don't know), but Nepali ones are so much better!! And WAYYY cheaper!! I paid 190rps (about £1.20) for 10 momos and a banana lassi. Now in England, you pay at LEAST double for 5 momos with no lassi. Lassi is an extra £4.
8. I saw the Indian King!!!!!! I was happily bouncing away on the rickshaw when there was a load of flashing lights, and 3 or 4 black cars went past, everyone letting them through. The nice old man rickshaw driver told me that it was the King of India!! He was heading towards the Indian Embassy where I guess he was doing some business or just a nice trip to Nepal.
9. I found a lovely little shop called "Folk Nepal" where they have 3 floors of table cloths, pashminas, clothes, pottery, drawers, mirrors, jewellery etc etc, and all the income goes to helping people in rural communities. They gave me a leaflet that says all about what these people do, and turns out they run a medical camp once a year, they fundraiser loads, and they sponsor children to give them an education. All amazing!! And the things in the shop are GORGEOUS and are all genuine!! A little more for what you'd pay on a stall, but I think it's well worth it. I bought a lovely red tablecloth with elephants on it for home, and bought myself a cheeky shawl :) I'd love to go there again if I have the chance!! But it's a little out of the way, apart from being near the Jet Airways office and the British embassy (ish)
10. I bought the children some bananas. They only cost 120rps which is about £1, and there were over 20 bananas!! I gave each child a banana, and they were all very grateful, each one saying "thank you miss" and grinning at me. One cheeky little boy even asked for 2!!
11. I had a cold shower (ish) I found a way so that I still get clean, but my whole body doesn't freeze. In the bathroom, there's a foot washer (I think it's that... If not, it's for after using the toilet.) that acts as a hose thing. By bending over, I can use that to wash my hair well, without getting the rest of my body cold. Then, I put my hair into a towel to dry, and spray areas of my body at one time (but very quickly!!!!) did I mention that the drinking water is warmer?!
So there you have it. My day in 11 steps. Not exactly in the right order, but there it is. Goodnight, and I'll upload this as soon as I can!!
