Forget spiders. Forget daddy long legs. Forget boiling nights. Forget dusty and smelly cities. At the centre, they have cold showers. Now these showers are no ordinary cold showers. The drinking water is warmer than the showers. I now feel so so smelly and yucky because I can't bear to get into the cold shower again.
So today felt really long... Woke up at stupid hour (7am - about 2am your time for those of you keeping track) and got dressed, downstairs for about 7.20. I sat outside with Brian (the other volunteer who I mentioned yesterday) and a few of the kids with some tea. Some of them started their homework in preparation for tomorrow's school (yes they have school 6 days a week, including Sunday.) so I sat around and helped with any necessary thing. They're all quite good though, but some copy others EXACTLY haha!! Some others were watching tv - I couldn't really understand what was going on, but if I tools guess it would be some guy with a wierd name talking about different music videos which they kept showing. To me, they all looked the same (the videos).
Then it was breakfast time - same food as always, rice, dal and spicy veggies. Although we picked up that Saturday is meat day!! So we had some yummy chicken to go with that :)
After breakfast the kids went back to whatever they were doing, and started washing their clothes as well. I decided it was a chill morning so I went back upstairs to the volunteers quarters and read a book. :)
After an hour or so I went back downstairs and played with the kids for a bit, chatting, and this one girl taught me this wierd crossword game which is easy once you get the hang of it, but I got so confused at the start!!
Oh one thing to point out - the girl I talked about yesterday is actually a boy. Turns out that wearing girls fleeces, jeans and shoes, and having a girly short haircut makes you a boy. Oops my mistake. Sorry Kumar!!
Lunch was this wierd dried crunchy rice stuff that was spicyyyyy!! It had those spicy potatoes in as well. Was quite nice though :)
After lunch I read a bit more of my book while some of the kids did some homework and finished washing clothes, then I went downstairs to the girls room. There were 4 of them there, 3 with leg disabilities (one who had an entire artificial leg, one with 2 artificial legs below the knee, and one with a deformed leg from birth), and one who had an amputated arm just above the elbow. They were all chatting away, then one decided to change into her Dasai outfit (Nepali New Year, they all get very nice clothes) and show me. She then wanted her hair done, so one of the others did that, then I did her makeup. They all pounced on me next!! Got my hair done (really wierdly... You'll probably see some photos!!), and they did my makeup and gave me a tikka :)
The next thing lasted for at LEAST an hour, and consisted of 122 photos. They asked me where my camera was. Big mistake. They took so so many photos my eyes and cheeks were sore from staring and smiling!! Thankfully, supper came!! Again, it was rice, dal and spicy veggies :)
After supper I transferred photos to their computer, then went up to my room and relaxed!!
