Even though I despise hard boiled eggs, it does feel very nice to have something to eat other than rice and veggies!! And even though the egg is whole and covered in chilli powder. Tastes wierdly inviting...
Today, again, not much happened... Most the kids went to school, but one of the schools didn't open so those few kids were left behind. At about 11, I walked up the hill to Thali with my (empty) rucksack and my camera. I was too shy to take pictures of the locals, as I thought this would be rude and they were all staring at me like I was the only white person they'd ever seen. I trekked to the tiny supermarket, and asked in my fluent Nepali (cough cough) how much things were. I headed for the section at the back where you could buy things in bulk. Before you get any ideas, this isn't for me. Well not now anyway!! It's to take home. Only a small amount to take home. I'll get the rest of it later. I only got stuff now to make the most of the opportunity of bulk buying. I then trekked all the way down the 10 minute walk hill, and unloaded the stuff in my room. I then went downstairs where I met another girl. I can't remember her name, but she's good at English, even though she's only in class 4 at school, and helps translate what the others are saying. Most of the girls have no taken to speaking to me in fluent and fast Nepali, none of which I can understand or hear, and they don't carry on with anything else until I've made a remark. I'm afraid to say yes because it might drag me into something haha!! I've managed to impress them with my very few phrases and words, and they grin at me when I say them. But now, I feel I'm just repeating the same words and phrases over and over again, as they're the only words I know!! But the girls never seem to tire if it!!
Lunch was another interesting mixture... Rice, hot milk, and takari (curried veg). I couldn't finish all of mine, as I honestly felt slightly sick from it. I'm not a huge fan of rice pudding and it reminded me of that, but instead of jam, I had spicy veggies. I went upstairs to try get rid of the taste in my mouth (took a while!!) and then got distracted by my book. It's on my iPad, and I've already read it twice, but it's a good book!! It's called the Soulkeepers and I don't know who it's by... One of those free short novels on the apple book store!! (The place on an iPad or whatever, where you can purchase and download books). By the time I looked at the time, it was already 4.30!! Time had passed so quick!! I paused in my book, and went downstairs to find that the kids had come back from school and were doing their homework.
At about 5, homework was paused as everyone gathered on the balcony to watch the scene of trying to get Subash onto the minibus to take him to his school. Subash has learning difficulties and behavioural problems. He also has difficulty walking, and has one hand out of use. The staff here find it almost impossible to cope with him, as he has constantly bit, scratched, and sent death threats to them. Miraculously, there is a school in Kathmandu (I think) that is especially for those with learning difficulties. Michael told me that they take on all sorts of people, ranging from very mild dyslexia, to severe cerebral palsy. So the staff have a weight lifted off their shoulders. However, it took a good 15 minutes with a collection of about 6 people to get him into the minibus. He was on the floor screaming, shanti tried to get him up, he punched the minibus lights and busted one, he bit shanti, I think put a small dent in the minibus, said some things in Nepali I didn't understand but everyone laughed at, and finally, Subash the physio had to sacrifice the physio sessions of this afternoon to lift small Subash (although he really isn't small!!) into the bus, and hold him down whilst they closed the door. I understand that the physio went all the way with Subash to the school/hostel where he's staying, and then I guess the physio left from there. Poor Subash, I know the feeling of not wanting to go to school!!
After the commotion and homework, Ayog, Kumar, Puja and I played cricket in the fading light. My eyesight is really quite bad in that light, so I wasn't much help with catching the ball!! Then, it was rice time!! With egg!! The most disgusting taste that turned out to be refreshing. Then, as usual, I escaped upstairs to have an attempt at the internet!!
I think early bed for me though, last nights sleep was disturbed by some dreams and awful nightmares, most of which I can't remember much of now.
