Today was the day I returned to the place I had lived in for 10 years. The place I had planned a trip back to for 9 years. The place I could call home.
We finally got on the flight to Kathmandu from Mumbai, which took about 2 hours ish. I had naps which added up to about an hour, as I was so so tired! They showed "man of steel" (the new superman movie) on the small foldaway screens above our heads, but I didn't catch it all.
When we landed, we were met by a family friend of Kriti's, a Gurkha, who took Kriti straight through to get her bags, then came back for me (Kriti was taking a domestic flight so had to be quick). He was ever so lovely, and got me all sorted. My bag (and Kriti's bags) took years to come through on the conveyer belt, but they came through eventually and we were escorted outside to a white Gurkha jeep. We took Kriti across to the domestic terminals, and I said goodbye. The driver of the vehicle then took me to Hotel Greenwich Village where I then called Liz Galpin to say I had arrived (and could she pick me up!). She informed me that we would be walking as she only lives 5 mins away from the hotel, so I spent the next 5 minutes trying to unwrap my suitcase from that cling film wrap stuff. Turns out it's easy but long and boringgg!!
It was nice to see a familiar face, especially one I hadn't seen for many years!! We walked back to their house, chatting away about uni etc. (did I mention that I sent off my applications the night before I left for here?!)
Their house is a typical Nepal house (well, a proper built one) with a huge black metal gate at the front! Liz introduced me to their dog called Lapsi who looks like a golden retriever. He's 4 and a half years old and is the cutest dog in the world!!
The room I'm staying in is a new room in their house - they separated one big room to have a small guest room, and so that Josh and Miri could have their own rooms. It's very basic - a bed, bedside table, carpet and a chair - but it suits me fine and it's lovely!! I'm so grateful that they're putting up with me for the first few nights!
I gave them their goody bag (a whole load of sweeties from England and a magazine for Liz) and their reaction reminded me of when we got sent things in the post from family and friends.
I sat down at their computer for 10 minutes or so, emailing people to say I'm alright, as my UK phone doesn't want to work... I can't even go on voicemail!! I'll have to wait 6 weeks to find out how urgent that voicemail is then!
The plan for tomorrow is to go into Thamel and buy some things, and sort out my flights so that me and Liam are actually on the same flight coming back!!
We sat down for some supper of takari and rice (YUM!!) and then started watching Jeeves and Wooster, but I felt so so tired so I went upstairs and got straight into bed!!
