Last night I woke up to the sound of terrified screaming, babies crying, and cattle mooing. For some reason, I thought it was part of my dream and went straight back to sleep. However, when I sat down for my morning tea, one of the staff told me that at 5am, a TIGER had come out from the nearby forest and taken a small cow from the house next door to DNC!! It was that close!! But everyone seemed to carry on as normal. The last sighting of a tiger was 2 years ago when this DNC building was being built. So not common at all!!
So that was the first excitement of the day. Being Friday, everyone had a half day of school, apart from the kids at the school in Thali who finished yesterday for Tihar. Brian turned up at about 2, then Michael turned up at 3. Everyone was overjoyed to see him!! So that was the second excitement.
The third excitement shortly followed, and I was very excited by this!! DNC now has... A PUPPY!!!!!! About a month old, so scared, and only drinking milk. I don't know what type of dog he is, but I have a feeling he'll grow into a huge one!! And not sure on the name, people keep telling me he's called different things. I personally like the name "Baloo" because he looks like a lil bear :)
Last excitement was more of a complete terror and scared the poop out of me!!!! So there I was, at around 9pm sat quietly reading my book (the one in the picture, again a very good book!!) and I heard something run across the floor. I looked up and there was what I thought was a mouse (but 10 times the size of a normal mouse!!) run into the bathroom, then into the bedroom next to mine. It must have been a full-grown rat!! And probably crossed with an elephant!! The biggest rat/mouse thing I've ever seen in my life!!!! I've now shut the door firmly of the room I thought it went into, but there is no way I'm sleeping tonight!! Wish me luck!!
Sorry for today's being so short, it's one of those days!!
Ps, I had a shower!! There are 2 bathrooms in the volunteers bit, and I tried the second bathroom, and the water was miraculously the same temperature as the drinking water!! I still showered with the bucket and jug, but I felt so fresh afterwards, it was amazing!! And I had to still sit outside in the sun to warm up, but it was a good shower!!!!
