Happiness Is The Road
It had been very very cold overnight, so much so that when we ventured out to the amenities we could see our breath. We later heard that the temperature had dropped to only one and a half degrees! Whilst having our brekky we were visited by the ducks including one massive and extremely cheeky white duck. He was a real character. He visited us twice and on both occasions he tried to get into the camper van! Despite it being a cold start the temperature warmed up later and with a clear blue sky it turned out to be a lovely day. After brekky we went to catch the bus from outside the caravan park. The bus took us to Stirling Station from where we had to catch a train the rest of the way to the city centre. The train line in the northern suburbs runs straight down the centre of the Mitchell Freeway and soon we were on the train speeding along faster than the freeway traffic. We arrived in the city at Perth's underground station from where we emerged onto one of the main shopping streets. We first of all went to find a branch of JB Hi-Fi as we have been having problems recently with our friendly GPS, Mick. Unfortunately I have to break to you the distressing news that Mick has been poorly recently. It seems that he had discovered 'the pop' and was going down the same slippery slope that led to the sad demise of his brother, our dearly departed Bruce. Mick has been having hot flushes for the last couple of weeks and we have had terrible problems trying to get him to stay powered on. He has been letting us down rather badly and we felt that he needed a spell in rehab. JB HI-FI took him off us and we truly hope that they will be able to wean him off the 'pop' before he powers off permanently. We are now in possession of Mick's replacement who happens to be his cousin Les. We truly hope that Les comes without the demons Bruce and Mick were battling with. We will miss Mick and the alarming advice he used to provide such as 'If those back seat passengers don't keep it down we'll ditch them at the next servo'. Luckily for Jay she never got ditched.Next we bought a new camera to replace the one that we so carelessly trashed a few days ago. After this we walked down to the Barrack Street Jetty on the Swan River to have a look at the Bell Tower and the beautiful river. We had a good mooch around here and ate some lunch and then we wandered back up to the shops to find the Apple Store for the next purchase of the day. We seem to be losing electrical items all over the place now as just a couple of days ago before getting to Perth we had an accident with the netbook that I used to write this blog. Our trusty fan, having discovered that it would be no longer needed because of the cold nights, got in strop and flung itself off our bedding shelf onto the netbook's screen and trashing it! Never mind though as every cloud has a silver lining. It meant that we could now visit a shiny beautiful Apple shop and purchase a rather splendid replacement. We emerged from the Apple Store very happy. With all our new electrical items we caught the train and bus back to the caravan park and settled down for another cold night.
