Happiness Is The Road
We got up fairly late and had one of our leisurely three course breakfasts. Most caravan parks have a 10am checkout but this one incredibly was 1pm so there was absolutely no hurry. We ended up leaving around half eleven though and hit the road out of Esperance heading east to Duke of Orleans Bay. It was a journey of about 80 kilometres . The road was very quiet and we passed through some very green farming land and past quite a few sheep. After about 60k we turned off the main highway and went down towards the coast. The caravan park was very quirky and right on the beach. Apart from some tatty cabins there was only us and a couple of other caravans there. We found a nice secluded spot in amongst some trees and bushes with a view through the aforementioned bushes to the sea. The lovely relaxing sound of the waves lapping the shore could be heard. We went for a walk along the beach around Orleans Bay and it was deserted which was brilliant. We walked the beach and paddled in the sea. The sand here was a brilliant white, very tightly packed and had a look and feel of snow. It crunched just like snow as we walked on it and in the shade and on our bare feet it almost felt as cold as snow. We chilled for the rest of the day and settled down in our little palatial camper van feeling like the Duke and Duchess of the bay.
