Happiness Is The Road
We had brekky whilst a couple of amorous love birds cavorted on the grass next to us. They were dancing together and kissing. They were really sweet, a bit like us really. We left Esperance again today but on the way out we decided to go and have one more look at the beaches and stunning coastline. We went and parked up at Salmon Beach and we watched the waves crash. The wind was up this morning and the waves were big. It was also raining on and off and in between showers we had a walk along the beach. Not for long though as it soon started raining again and we had to make a dash back to the camper. We left Esperance in the rain heading west and towards Stokes National Park about 70 kilometres away. I had not visited here back in November and was interested to see what it was like. It rained most of the way, torrentially at times. By the time we got to the turn off for the national park the rain had stopped and we drove the seven kilometres to the park down one of the best dirt roads we have ever been on. It was smooth most of the way and hardly corrugated like most are. When we got to the campground, nestled on the banks of the inlet, we were greeted by a really friendly chap called Charlie, who along with his wife Helen, were the volunteer camp hosts. He told us about the park and said to have a look around and pick a spot if we liked it. He said he'd come round later to collect the fees. We really liked this campground as it consisted of private camping bays set amongst the bush and well spaced apart for privacy. We settled on site seven as it had the best view of the inlet. We had some lunch whilst looking at a big beautiful rainbow that was strung across the sky. Charlie came round soon after to check we were okay and we paid our fees. He was a really great bloke and the complete opposite of the 'stealth *******' volunteer at Karijini National Park. Charlie told us where the walk trail started and told us to beware of snakes by the water. We had to put our fee receipt into a plastic holder at the entrance to our site. When I got there with receipt in hand imagine my horror when I saw a huge spider in the plastic holder. It was massive and looked like a Hunstman Spider which although aren't dangerous are bloody terrifying to look at. I wasn't sure though whether it was dead and tapped the plastic cover. It moved!!!! Jay was watching from a distance looking concerned but not coming anywhere near. I poked the paper receipt into the holder and luckily the spider budged up instead of lunging out at me! We wondered where it's friends were and had nightmarish visions of them getting in the camper van! By now the showers seemed to have finally stopped and the sky was getting bluer. We went on a short walk to have a look at the inlet and then chilled for the rest of the day. We had to shut ourselves in the camper early as the mozzies were rampant and savagely vicious here. They were out early and there were loads of them. I suppose that's the problem with staying so close to an inlet of water. We tried to sleep hoping that the mozzies and spiders wouldn't eat us up in the night.
