Happiness Is The Road
After brekky we hit the highway again. We had originally been intending on going to Exmouth but we changed our minds. From what we had read and from what other people had told us it sounded to us like Exmouth would be too much like Broome. It sounded like hell. We had nightmarish visions of all the 'sheep' rammed in, satellite TV's blaring, so we changed to plan B. We didn't think we'd be missing much. We still drove to the coast but we went to Coral Bay instead. It was a really picturesque little bay and it was great to see the ocean again. The sand here was absolutely pristine and white, unlike Broome, and the sea was a beautiful turquoise. It was a really lovely place. We had a walk along the beach, paddled in the crystal clear sea and sat on the soft warm sand soaking up the sun. It was an idyllic location but tainted a little bit by the hordes of people that were here. The place was rammed. There were two caravan parks here but they didn't seem to have any room. Not that it mattered because we didn't want to stay here. It was camping hell like in Broome with row upon row of tightly packed caravans all with satellite dishes! Can people think of nothing better to do than watch the TV? I haven't watched the TV now for nine months and I don't miss it one little bit. If the 'sheep' want to be brainwashed by it though that's up to them. We left Coral Bay mid afternoon and drove back to Highway 1 through a landscape of low bushes full of real sheep. Just like the human 'sheep' most of them were huddled together in the same place. We did, however, notice one solitary sheep that was on a little hill all on his own away from the rest of the flock. We could really relate to that sheep! Not too long after leaving Coral Bay we passed a sign marking the Tropic of Capricorn. That meant that were now leaving the tropics and were now in winter. You wouldn't think it though as the weather was red hot. We decided to stay tonight at the Minilya Roadhouse. There was a nice caravan park here and we chilled out here for the rest of the day. We are now just over 1000 kilometres from Perth and my completion of the full circle around Australia.
