Happiness Is The Road
After brekky we left Busselton. Instead of going to Hamelin Bay we decided instead to break the journey and stop at Margaret River. It didn't take long to get there and along the way we got some more photos of the model cows in Cowaramup. When we got to Margaret River we had a good look around the shops. Jay bought herself some new thongs and we managed to find some Yallingup woodfired bread. It is organic sourdough bread and completely free of the toxic oil and sugar found in most breads. I'd been looking forward to coming back to this area to buy this bread and I was hoping it was as good as I remembered it. It absolutely was, it tasted yummy and is the best bread we have found in the whole of Australia. We are hoping to visit the bakery shop when we are in Yallingup in a few days. We had a good mooch around the shops in Margaret River. There are some lovely shops here and the town has a really nice vibe to it. After the shops we went for a walk through the woods and along the river. We saw a cat on the river bank with it'e cunning eyes on the ducks. Nice to see a cat enjoying it's freedom with not a lead in sight. The walk through the big trees was lovely. Once back in the town we went to find somewhere to stay the night. We had seen an advert for the Big Valley Campsite a few kilometres away and it sounded great. It boasted that it had a mosquito free environment and that it was a quiet haven for travellers nestled amongst the hills of a picturesque working sheep farm. We went with high hopes. We soon found it and turned off the main road and onto a dirt track which took us through a wooded area before opening out into beautiful green fields full of sheep. There were sheep all over the place and lots of cute baby lambs. The dirt track took us through this field to the camp area. It really did look lovely here. The girl at reception was very friendly and we followed her on her motorbike to our site. We followed behind her bike along with her dog, Trixie, and one of the lambs which was bounding ahead of us like a dog. It was so cute. We got an amazing spot on the edge of the site with an uninterrupted view of the gorgeous green hills and all the sheep grazing on them. The weather was beautiful and warm so we got our camp chairs out and relaxed by the camper taking in the view. The only sounds we could hear were that of the birds in the trees and the sheep bleating. So far so good. Then a 4X4 rocked up just behind us and the peace and tranquility we had been enjoying was shattered. Two arrogant looking young girls in dark shades got out and proceeded to take their tent down to a soundtrack of Kings Of Leon. We were treated to almost the whole of the Only By The Night album. Now Jay and I like the Kings Of Leon as much as the next man but not when we're relaxing on a sheep farm! It seems that no matter where we go there's always some inconsiderate *******s subjecting everyone else to their music.Thank goodness these ignorant human sheep tossers were packing up and going. Eventually the Kings Of Leon faded off into the distance and the tranquility returned for now. Four little lambs came by to see us, we saw the sheep being fed and a really lovely big sheep took a shine to us. She saw us and came running up to the fence. She was very tame and we stroked and made a fuss of her. Her wool was very thick and soft and she ate grass from Jay's hand. The amenities here were very clean and right next to the camp kitchen. There were notices on the shower doors which were hilarious:- 'To whom it may concern - Please blow your nose on a tissue before entering the showers (not nice for the ones cooking or having a shower beside you, hearing the nose cleaning in the shower)'. We were pleased to see that someone else had taken notice of this common occurrence and felt it necessary to put a notice up. Jay in particular has has had to put up with hideous and excessive nose blowing on nearly every trip to the amenities she has made.. She has been subjected to disgusting Australian women blowing and moaning and grunting. I have very rarely heard men doing this in the shower. We have therefore come to the conclusion that Australian women are generally disgusting beasts. Jay could write a whole book full of hilarious and disgusting things heard and witnessed in the amenities. We tried to relax for the rest of the day but the elderly 'sheep' in the caravan next to us had their TV on so loud we could hear it. Why come to somewhere so beautiful and watch the TV? We could also hear the TV blasting out from the camp kitchen which wasn't that close too us. Maybe though it was some poor sod trying to drown out the snorting and nose blowing coming from the showers whilst trying to sizzle their sausage. A quiet haven this was not. There were far too many annoying 'sheep' here. Also it was not the mosquito free environment that had been promised. We were under attack from mozzies but on the plus side the sunset over the sheep fields was extremely beautiful. The TV's eventually fell silent and we drifted off to sleep counting sheep.
