After leaving Point Samson we headed to the historic port town of Cossack. There are still a few buildings left and there is a heritage trail you can follow around the town becoming informed on its history as you go. It would have been a very pretty coastal town in its day.

We headed into Karratha next, stopping at the visitor centre for information and morning tea. We then did a few chores and stopped for lunch at a park in town before continuing onto Dampier and the Burrup peninsula.

We just did a drive through Dampier before heading to the Woodside Information Centre for the North West Shelf Venture (Gas). This was actually very interesting. We spent time watching a DVD of the building of the plant as well as a look at numerous information boards and models. The plant itself is massive and growing by the day.

On the way back down the peninsula we stopped at Hearson's Cove where low tide meant we walked out for almost a kilometer before the water started to get above our ankles.

Not wanting to stay in town we found a great campspot by the Maitland River about 30kms south of Karratha. We put our camper right along the waters edge. We decided it would be a great spot to stay for a couple of nights.

Whilst there we read, swam, went for a walk and listened to the footy. We also headed back to Karratha for supplies as we thought there could be a chance we would go inland before reaching another town to re-supply.
