Bill was right on time to pick us up. We got loaded and hit the road. David sat in the front with Bill and I sat, and later slept, on the bed in the backseat of the truck's cab. We made good time to Geraldton arriving at the 440 Roadhouse at 9am for breakfast.
Bill then dropped me and the camper off at the caravan park and took David and the car to Kia. David picked up a courtesy car whilst there - a Mazda 121 probably early 90's model!!
We've spent some time driving around Geraldton, doing a bit of shopping and reading the paper a lot. We took a day trip down to Dongara and Port Denison and had lunch at a pub there. It cost us $21 each for a chicken parma and that didn't come with a free pint! Things are quite expensive in WA. It's hard to find cheap food. Saying that though, we did find a bakery in Geraldton where we could get a meat and salad roll and a can of soft drink for $5. We did that a couple of times this week.
We went to the HMAS Sydney Memorial. Geraldton was the last place the ship docked prior to going missing off the Western Australian coast a month later in November 1941. The wreck was found earlier this year off Shark Bay just north of Geraldton. The memorial was touching, with 654 (the number of crew on the ship - I think) seagulls in a dome signifying the souls of the sailors flying above and a waiting and watching woman.
The weather was pretty crappy here Thursday night and Friday. Rain and wind. We were forced indoors. On DVD we relived Liverpool's amazing comeback in the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final. Liverpool won against Inter Milan on penalties after being 3 nil down at half time.
The car was ready this morning. The repair was under warranty but the service cut deep into our pockets.
Now to Kalbarri for a few nights before heading for Perth and then Melbourne here we come.
