On the way down from Kununurra we stopped at the Warmun/Turkey Creek roadhouse for a toilet stop and came out with a big box of hot chips. Mmmmm hot chips. From the roadhouse it was only 50kms to the turnoff into the Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park. And then only 53km from there.

These 53km, we had been warned, took us an hour and a half. The road was so windy, rocky and corrugated that we averaged 35km per hour. There were also four creek crossings, which always make you a bit nervous. Fortunately at a couple of crossings, vehicles came from the other direction so we were able to watch them go through first. Also, lucky for me David does most of the driving on the dirt.

Our stop at the Bungles has been slotted in to ensure we get back to Kununurra to watch the last two stages of the Tour de France, so we had a schedule to adhere to.

We set up camp at Kurrajong before heading to Cathedral Gorge for a walk through there. This is the area where the mountains/hills look like massive beehives. It is a pretty impressive landscape.

After the Gorge we went to Kungkalanyi lookout (unscheduled but fitted in nicely) to watch the sunset. This lookout had 360 degree views of the area and was either mountains or spinafex, very spikey spinafex as David found out when I accidentally pushed him into it.

Last night was very cold. We did not last long after dinner choosing an early night under the doona.

Friday morning we packed up ready to go before heading to check at Mini Palms Gorge and Echidna Chasm. Both of these walks were very rocky, walking along the stream bed. Both also required clambouring over some llarge rocks and through some tight spots before coming to some great views under 200m high walls.

The road out of the Bungles was just as tough as the road in (surprisingly!!) and we were both looking forward to hitting the bitumen.

We stopped for lunch at the Warmun roadhouse.
