The car ran out of fuel on the last hill before Tom Price. Fortunately we still had some fuel in one of our fuel cans, so we 'topped' the car up and drove the last 3kms into Tom Price. Tom Price is a mining town in the Pilbara. We arrived on Thursday afternoon with plans to stay until Sunday so we could watch the Grand Final at the pub on Saturday.
We did a tour to the Rio Tinto Pilbara Iron Ore Mine. It was great to be so close to the huge trucks and to be driving along (in the tour bus) on the mine tracks. The tour guide was very informative. We both enjoyed the tour.
We watched the Grand Final at the Tom Price Hotel. I was barracking for Shane Crawford even though I thought Geelong would win. We both still thought the Cats would win at three quarter time. We were wrong. After the game we rang David's brother, Gary who's a Hawks supporter. He was pretty happy with the result.
We got a cab back to the caravan park after the game and after something to eat we went to bed!
Sunday morning we decided to stay another night in Tom Price and we drove out to Hammersly Gorge, which is part of Karijini National Park. We went for a bit of a walk before having a swim. This was a popular spot.
We then drove to the Mt Sheila lookout. The road to the lookout was incredibly steep and the views from the top were amazing over the Hammersly Ranges.
From here were are heading to Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef.
