We had not planned a long stop in Derby as we did not know how long it would take us to get along the Gibb. We'd booked into Broome from the 10th so that left three nights in Derby.
We went to the Derby jetty which has an 11 metre tide. The difference between high and low is pretty amazing.
We ran into Peter and Isabel from Frankston, whom we had met in Kununurra. It was good to catch up with them. They are a genuinely lovely couple. They also offered a lot of advice for what to see and do in WA.
David went for a couple of rides on his motorbike along the mud flats. I decided to have a go and it was pretty straight forward being so flat, I even got up to 60kms per hour!
The Olympics opened whilst we were here. We watched the start of the opening ceremony at the pub before heading back to the caravan park and watching the end there. Well I did anyway. David went to bed early.
We set up in front of the caravan park television for the men's cycling road race and then spent the whole day there watching and having a BBQ for lunch. Unfortunately, no Australian medaled.
