We arrived in Kalbarri on Saturday just in time to put a bet on the Cox Plate and watch the race. When David left the car he said he was going to back Maldivian but by the time I'd parked the car and gone inside he'd put our money on Sirmione. Not that I would have stopped him. Anyway, you know how this story ends!
We spent our time wondering around town. The town is very picturesque with the Murchison River meeting the ocean. By the river they feed the pelicans each morning. We went and watched this. We also went into the National Park to Nature's Window and the Z bend. Beautiful though the area is we were not overly impressed by the gorges. Maybe this was because there was very little water in the river or maybe it was because we have seen our fill of gorges.
Sunday night we went out for dinner to Finlay's Seafood BBQ. This restaurant had been recommended to us by many people. The restaurant is BYO all drinks and glasses as well if you don't want to drink your wine out of a plastic cup! We both ordered "Something for everyone". This big plate had grilled fish, fried fish, calamari, prawns, spring rolls, rice and chips. We also got some hot damper with a whole container of 'ETA 5 Star' butter. The damper was delicious. The value of the food was great - our plates were $20 each. We polished off a bottle of BYO white wine and wiped our mouth and hands with the toilet paper provided! The idea of the restaurant is great. It wasn't overly busy when we were there but I can imagine in school holidays you would have to wait for a table.
We both had a ride on the motorbike on Monday. David went off to a motorbike track he found in the sand dunes. I just went for a cruise around town.
Today we head to Perth, about 590kms south of here, where we will spend the night at my cousin Linda's before jumping on the plane to Melbourne on Wednesday.
