We had been told about a "snack stop" near the Leonard River bridge on the Gibb River Road so we stopped here for lunch before heading to Windjana Gorge. The snack stop was a caravan in a rest area by the river. Looked like it had been there for a while and even though our pies were microwaved the shop keeper knew how best to cook them. We were disappointed not to spot any crocs in the Leonard River.

After setting up camp at Windjana Gorge campground, with an amazing backdrop, we headed to Tunnel Creek for a look.

It was an interesting walk through a large tunnel/cave with a lot of water in it. It was very dark - we walked with our headlights on. There were bats in the cave that you could smell long before you saw them.

On leaving the tunnel there was a bit of a crowd watching a king brown snake at the entrance. He was pretty much preventing people getting in. There were a few kids who got very close to this extremely dangerous snake. Not sure what there parents were thinking standing nearby.

On leaving Tunnel Creek we picked up a hitchhiker who we had seen waiting for a lift a couple of hours earlier when we had arrived. His name was Simon and he was from Sweden. He was a big fan of Australia. This was his second time here and all up he'd been in the country 20 months. He was a nice guy who offered us a lot of advice of what to see in WA.

Wednesday morning we went for a walk along Windjana Gorge. The best bit to this walk was all the freshwater crocodiles in the Fitzroy River at the start of the gorge. There were 50, maybe more, crocs mostly along the river bank and a few in the water. After walking a substantial way along the river bed in the gorge, we turned around and headed back to the start where we sat and watched the crocs for a bit longer.

The rest of our time at Windjana was spent relaxing and reading.
