Last night we watched Chelsea win on penalties with 50 Germans - victory has never tasted so sweet as they were not happy bunnies.
Today we have had a great day relaxing and sightseeing in Leon. We started looking around San Marcos the stunning Renaissance building built as a pilgrim hospital in 12th century and now the Parador we are staying in. It's such a privilege to be around all this history and the place had a special atmosphere.
We then went to San Isidore's Basilica which has the church but the showstopper is the cloisters and Royal burial vault known as Pantheon Real where 11 Kings,14 Queens & 23 Princes are buried. The frescoes are 800 years old and in near perfect condition.
We then went into the Cathedral with 125 stain glass windows which light up the vast interior. Not sure we liked it as much as Burgos but still very impressive.
After all this culture we retired to the tapas area and sampled a few places before retiring for a nap.
We are not very religious or culture vultures but you cannot fail to be moved by the history of Leon and that you can see it all without the coach parties and crowds which wreck many other historical cities is such a bonus.
