Sal could not leave our grim hostal quick enough so we were out and on the road at 06.50 our earliest start yet. It began to rain and did not stop for 3 hours which made the going very tough as the mud in Rioja is red clay and very heavy. Thankfully for the last hour the sun came out and the views were lovely as we homed in on Santo Domingo.
Lots of pilgrim history here and there is a special feel to the place. Our Parador is a fab 16c converted monastery - I don't think I will get Sally out of here in the morning!
We have now covered 215kms in 11 days which we are really pleased with and it's only another 574 to go!! It doesn't sound so much if you say it quickly. So far both of us are physically doing ok - we just have to take every day as it comes.
Since we have been on this trip Sally has been making a lot of funny faux pas and causing many electrical items to fail or start without touching them (hairdryers tvs air con etc...It reminds me of Vince Cable's comment ' Sally's transformation from Interior Designer to Mrs Bean has been quite remarkable'.

Bill & Jill Jordan Well done so far. Sounds as if you need to keep ar arm's reach. Have you got a grey beard yet Lol, not you Sal. Keep going and enjoy the experience - occasionally envious! B & J xx
Martin and Jenny Ridehalgh I don't know if I want to do any more work for Mrs Bean if she now has such a wierd effect on electrical appliances!! Well done on your progress - I guess you'll be able to write a manual on the highs and lows of accommodation. By my reckoning at present progress you'll spend 40 days and 40 nights to accomplish your incredible dream - keep at it and well done. M&J xx
laurieandsally Martin and Jenny great to hear from you and I think Mrs Bean will be back to being Mrs Interior Designer once in UK & back to normality. I dont think we are the first people to be out in wilderness for 40 days and nights but the coincidence of that has not been lost on us L and S xx
laurieandsally B and J - I tried the beard for a few days but instead of looking like George Clooney as hoped for I looked more like Albert Steptoe! L and S xx
