Left Belorado at 0745 and set off to climb to 3800ft at Montes de Orca on a 27km walk. It turned out to be quite boring as once we did the climb we were in a pine forest for 12km and could not see anything. It seemed to go on forever and we were delighted to come out of it and see to tonights stop St Juan de Ortega. A tiny village of 20 residents but with a stunning church and a bar next to it.
Church of England please note all churches in Spain have a good bar next door to them which would increase the flagging attendances in UK.
We are staying in a newly renovated private hostal which is good but sadly no hair dryer.
Tomorrow we head to Burgos which everyone says is lovely so we are going to try and get somewhere nice and take a day off before we tackle the Meseta. This is a wilderness of wheat fields on the high plains of Spain which will take us 3 days to cross.

jonathan buckingham I'm breaking my blogging viginity this evening. I'm quite nervous! Trip to date sounds fabulous. How are your feet coping? Is Sal carrying your bag for you Laurie?! How's the food? And drink? First signs of summer today - copious amounts of white flesh on view is a sure sign! The grand prix and tennis worlds' spotlights are on Spain this w/e. I presume you'll be watching both. Thinking of you both on your big adventure. Bugs x
laurieandsally Bugsy thx for losing your virginity to us and so far feet ok. Lots of compeed and Vaseline on the sore bits , 2 pairs of socks and crank the boots up tight seems to work. Food is ok when we have to have the 'pilgrim special' 3 course with wine for 10€. But like last night in Burgos we can break out & the food and wine is great when you tour the tapas bars. Today is our 1st day off so we wiil take it easy and explore the old town which is amazing. Cheers L and S xx
