Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
O.K- gota update on this week. To be honest, I think I just lazed about on Tues and Wed. Got some odd jobs done and arranged dance rehearsals for my form 4's, since I want them to perform for our leaving party. Went to docs on wed night to get my drugs then on Thursday, Aman and I went to Seri Mengasih, a school for disabled children in Sabah. They have a guiding group there that I met at the 'Thinking Day' service earlier this year and they don't have any government funding or support to run the school or Guide's group. The Brownie group from Kirkliston, who I used to work with, kindly donated some money to them, so we went to meet them all, see how the school is run, and take some pics and hand over the donation. The kids ages range from Primary school level, to Vocational level- the eldest student being 33 years old. All of the students are mentally disabled and the people we met in the Vocational department, ran a bakery and crafts workshop. Their produce is sold to various local school canteens and craft shops and the money raised is put back into the school. It was great to meet them all and a group of students had all dressed in Traditional dress from the various tribes around Sabah, to have their photos taken with us. The Principal of the school was telling me how the airport nearby was expanding, resulting in them being evicted from their land. They have nowhere to go and no money to fund the move, so they are pleading to the Government to find somewhere for the children to go.
We bought some of their craft produce, before heading to KK on our way back. We grabbed a Little Italy and got some jobs done around town. That night, Artina and her husband collected us to take us for dinner. She previously asked me if I wanted to go for seafood but the answer was a blunt 'no way', so luckily she took us for some delicious pizza instead.
