Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
On Friday, we set of for KK quite early so that I could get some photos of KK, save them to CD and get some grub to take to Manukan for our 'big weekend'. All 8 of us met at the port and managed to blag ourselves onto a cheap boat to the island. On arrival, we discovered that there had been a c*** up with our booking. We had booked 2 challets, but our booking was lost and the only chalets available were on separate sides of the island and we wanted to all spend the night together. We ended up scoring an awesome deal, due to Madlen's cunning dealing techniques. Initially, when I booked the chalets, I wanted us all to cram into one so that we could be all together, but they wouldn't allow it, so we were forced to book 2. Whereas now, they offered us a large 2 storey chalet for all of us to share, since they had messed up the booking. And they gave us free set dinner, which was awesome. So as soon as we got into our sexy wooden chalet, we got out the speakers that Madlen and Jade slyly nicked from their school, and cranked up the ipod. I don't think the family (with a baby) next door to us were best pleased! As the night went on, we thought we'd better give them some peace, so left the chalet and headed to the pier. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous and many a cartwheel were done along the sand as the sun slowly disappeared into a blanket of pink and purple clouds.
Although it was pitch black, the small lights on the pier showed huge crocodile fish and various others circling below. The obvious idea of skinny dipping came up, but we thought it a bit rude to do so in an Islamic country, even if we were on a tropical island. So Edward, Madlen and Catherine jumped in in their undies. There was no way I was jumping off a pier into the unknown below me, so Georgie and I took the role of stealing their clothes. Really thought they'd throw me in for that. Twas highly amusing.
Once back at the chalet, Edward taught the others a night fever dance and Peter did his best to open a bottle of wine with a crap corkscrew but it was a lost cause. He also drank most of my condensed milk, which was bought to go on my punnet of strawberries, which were extortionate!
We headed out again to the beach, with the now empty bottle of wine (Madlen just pushed the cork into the bottle as we couldn't get it out) and sat in a circle chatting about the last 6 months. Twas a real reminiscing sesh- with all the good's and bads coming up. We were saying how we're all gona miss the freedom we have out here, the laid back atmosphere and never having to be on time for anything- "Malaysian Time"'s the best! The others brought up the suggestion that when we get home, no one else will really care what we've been doing for the past 8 months or so, since they will have been busy with their own lives and everyone's doing their own thing now. Which is true, but I kind of expect that anyway. Twill just be weird that we've just gone through the most crazy thing, and when we go home, no one but ourselves will really understand it, if that makes sense. So I think it'll be amazing when us gappers meet up and can talk about our experiences together. We were also asking if we thought people would say that we've changed in any way, visually or mentally. I really have no idea- just have to wait and see! Was pretty sad thinking about us all saying goodbye for the last time the next day. Twas during that convo that we noticed it was 12.40am- so "Happy Birthday Kirsty!" So exciting spending my birthday on an awesome island with some ace people.
Back in the chalet, Georgie surprised me with the most amazing Birthday prezzie. We've had so much random banter over the past 6 months, and the box she gave me included most of it. She gave me a Radja CD (the Indonesian band we've fallen in love with and do karaoke to), a copy of the "Sabah RAP"- a highly amusing rap we made up over txt when we were bored one night, a freaky orangutan that squeals -"I love you" when you push its belly (the orangutan cuddly toys here freak us out), 2 pairs of XL pants that the girl from After Six (the band from BED) wears, a photo album of some of our best moments and a really cute card. Twas a tearful moment when she gave me that. I'm mega excited cause the prezzie from Aman's still to come- can't wait to see what it is!
After that, we got all of our mattresses, took them upstairs and all piled into one room- aw yeah- except for Peter and Catherine! We've been trying to set them up the whole time- we're sure there's something going on there. So yeah, they were still downstairs, Ed came up and we were all like- "Ed, Ed- go downstairs and put on "Can you feel the love tonight? On the ipod!" So he did, and then bolted upstairs and closed the door. Immature amusement all round. In the end, they came upstairs as well and twas like one big slumber party. Twas so nice waking up on my bday with everyone around me- we all felt a lot closer this weekend. We got up, tidied the place up, while listening to some mellow music, then head out for the beach to catch some tannage before we all head off for our next travels.
Left the beach at 3pm, dumped our stuff at NBC then had a little nap before getting ready for our meal at Little Italy. Bought a big cheesecake from the Coffee Bean (3/4 brownie, ¼ oreo) then finally we all met up in LI. Penelope and the 2 gappers from the outwards bound school joined us and it was a really good meal. Penele got all emotional when we said thank you and gave her gifts, which was nice. She gave us all a little something and said it was a privilege to have us all. Was really weird at the end saying goodbye to her for the last time. Jade gave me a photo album for my birthday of all of the awesome memories form KK- mostly at BED- some pics were hilarious. When the outward bound gappers looked through the pics, they were saying how it looked like we'd had the time of our lives over the last 6 months, and we all just looked at each other and were like- "Yeah, we really have". It's weird how when we cram all of our fave moments together into one album- it shows how many awesome experiences we've had and what crazy and amazing people we've met along the way. Stuff we'll never forget.
After that, we all headed to BED and were totally gutted to discover that After Six weren't playing! It was some other band, who turned out to actually be alright, but it wasn't the same. We headed back a bit early and said our final farewells to the boys.
The next morning I was up early to get loads of stuff sorted out- like developing photos, buying gifts for people at home and buying photo frames. Aman and I just had to go to LI one last time to say our final good bye and get a photo with all of the staff. I then braved the waxing parlour. Twas the first time I've ever been and oh my- it wasn't actually that bad though. Took aages, then Aman and I went back to NBC, wrote them a thank you card and set off for our last ever time from KK. It was an absolute monsoon, so we couldn't actually see much off it through Mr Soo's window- but we still waved it off.
