Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Got a bit of a shock yesterday when Johnston approached me saying that he got some feedback from the classes about my lessons and it wasn't all good- as in it was pretty much all negative comments :-S.
So, at first I felt a bit crap, cos I knew for a fact my classes have been overly rubbish so far. But then I decided just to be honest with the class and sit with them and explain everything.
Soo, luckily, I had just received British magazines from cool aunty Susy so I kinda used them to break the ice. First I sat them round in a circle (there were only about 25 of them cos Johnston told me some couldn't be bothered turning up). I apologized for having such a rough start to the course and asked for some suggestions as to how I could improve the lessons. The kids were really good and gave some great ideas- like having an "extreme treasure hunt", movie reviews, Malaysian Pop Idol, Cooking classes, acting competitions. And I decided to suggest a Scottish Day and maybe (if I could get permission) a big BBQ. They then hada flick through the mags and they were big time impressed so I've def gota get more things sent out!
I felt soo much better after that class, I just hope that the lessons we came up with can firstly go ahead, and secondly can be successful.
In the evening Aman and I taught the Hostelites a clapping game I used to use (admittedly still use with certain individuals). Also taught them some guide songs- really need to come up with more tho cos they love the "singing in a circle" thang and all I could think of was "A pizza hut" song, and "Everywhere we go, people always ask us, who we are" song. So if anyone has any other ideas, lemme know!
I managed to get an early night last night (like 11pm) but didn't sleep too fab due to my mattress. Still waiting to get it changed.
Today I got my classes to design and make an aircraft of some kind and the competition was to see whose would fly the longest. They also had to have a description and commentary in English.
This evening Aman and I are going to a Bible Study with 2 of the pupils and their parents. Should be eventful.
Best be off for my dinner- we're still eating with our fingers cos there is a severe lack of cutlery.
