Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Tis most definitely "back to reality" now that we're back at the school. Time flew by while we were in Hong Kong but now I can't explain how slowly time is going- don't think it was such a good idea buying a watch cos I'm constantly looking at it.
Just feels like the next 4 and a bit weeks until our March holidays is gona be tough. Just thinking about getting to the East Coast of Sabah and seeing the orang-utans is making me feel positive.
My classes have been starting to get a bit out of hand. I just cannot control 40 students for 2 hours on my own so I decided to approach Johnston about it. Aman and I also decided to bring up the issue that our mattresses are so thin that we are actually sleeping on the bars of our bed. So thankfully he has suggested that I down size my classes to 20 pupils for each lesson and has assured us he will get our beds fixed.
I'm also trying to get involved with the choir and drama groups, which means shifting my English classes about. We also had to ask permission for time off our lessons so that we can hold the Deaf Camp in April.
Feel like we bombarded him with requests but we're glad we've got stuff sorted now.
The kids were little brats on Monday, which isn't helped by the fact that the venue for my classes is the main hall of the school and is very noisy and constantly interrupted by other students. So that will def be getting changed as well. Although their behavior has improved throughout the week.
This week the kids did a presentation on what they got up to in their holidays, made Chinese Lions and performed a dance, and today I used mum's idea of laying a student down on paper, getting the others to draw around them, get them to decorate the body (on paper), then get them to label various body parts, i.e "eyes, hands, feet" etc.
Yesterday, Aman and I forced ourselves to get our bathroom sorted. Unfortunately there was only 1 pair of rubber gloves so I faced the grime pit bare-handed- nice. Wasn't exactly a fun job but it really had to be done. The strange lingering smell in our room seems to be slowly dying down now.
I keep finding myself just sitting, like I'm just physically waiting for the time to go by. Just wana get out there and do something.
This weekend we're starting our padi course at last. We're doing our theory on Saturday but will have to leave our 1st dive for another date cos Georgie and Kathryn have to head back to their school midday on Sunday. On Sat night we've got our dinner party with the Asrama students-wooo. Then next weekend, Aman, Georgie, Kathryn, Edward, Peter and I are all gona go White water rafting. Reeally can't wait for that!
Was such a shame today in class. When I was teaching Form 1A, one of the boys approached one of the girls with a huuuge spider (like mr tarantula) and she totally screamed. I thought it must've been a fake one but then the boys were playing with it and it was running up and down their arms! At first I thought it was quite amusing but then this girl started totally shaking and sweating big time- major panic attack- I was like, oh dear. So I sat her down and she just started crying big time. So I just sat with her until she kinda stopped shaking and took her for some water. Mean boys or what! The spider was kinda cute though.
Anways, have to go just now, I'm being oddly shunted from the comp by a group of students. I don't really understand if they're just wanting to speak to me or want on the comp so I better go. Really getting freaked out by the number of kids watching me type! Oh- just discovered they want my phone number, oh dear.
