Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
So now, finally, the cloud of disbelief from my previous post has evaportated, considering I now write this 2 weeks after I left the school. O.K, so casting my mind back to June 27th, I shall try to catch up on my ever so overly due postcards! On Tuesday, Aman and I began gathering gifts for the teachers together and considering packing up- which we didn't really get round to. It feels like so long ago since I left, so I will so my best to remember as much as I can. At 2pm that day, Aman and I attended a much awaited party for us- organised by the deaf students. We knew how much effort they'd been puting into it, and the things they presented were just so touching, yet amusing. They welcomed us with their usual "Jazz hands"- their form of applause. We took a seat in the front of many rows of chairs in the classrom. First, we were greeted by Sister Susanna and Catherine, who both gave a speech thanking us and it was so heart felt that Aman and I started getting slighlty overwhelmed already. They then showed a slideshow of amazing pics of everyone from the deaf camp- brought back some great memories. I love the deaf kid's parties. The only noises to be heard are giggling, which is always a 'feel good' sound! Some of the girls were lined up behind tables of food, dressed as dinner ladies, with hats made out of folded paper- highly amusing seeing Florence's cheeky face- she was loving it! Florence and one of the other girls introduced a Drama their class had prepared. It was based in a doctor's surgery and showed a variety of amusing patients coming in with various ailments, such as tooth ache, resulting in them using rediculously sized utensils to extract the 50cm2 tooth! Highly amsuing at the time. They also xrayed the patients, using a torch and pre-drawn pics of bones and intestines. Great fun. Next, Aman and I participated in a "Train" game, involving standing in a circle and making actions like a train when pointed at. You have to keep up with sequence or you are out. No doubt my reflexes were lacking so I was tossed outa the game pretty quick! Next, we were given a few props- a red scarf, a chair and a batton. We had to come up and use the props to create a scenario or scene. Ended up pissing myself in disbelief when Liya, innocent Muslim teacher, came up to the front, used one of the boys as her prop- tied him to the chair and pretended to be a policeman. Too funny at the time. We were then treated to a dance by a few of the kids, which was coolio. Then we tucked into some food. The kids then gave us a few prezzies and one of the girls drew an amazing pic of Aman and I. That was the best gift I recieved before we left. Was so chuffed she even remembered to include my saphire necklace. Love that pic she drew. All the kids lined up and gave us all a hug, which nearly got us going, but neither of us were up for getting to emotional yet, even though it was really hard not to when we knew we'd be jet setting off and leaving these guys.
That evening, we were supposed to be going out with Rakeema, but she was just back from a long trip and too tired, which we were pleased with, cause it gave us a chance to spend more time with the girls. They were supposed to be studying in the hall from 7pm, but I asked the teacher if they could help me make decorations for our leaving party the following day and score, they got time off studying. But yeah right did we make decorations! Joyce, Aubry and Meeza came up to our room with loadsa junk food and speakers and we had a little party. We taught them all of these hillarious dance moves that we use, as well as fantastic ones our friends and family shamefully use. They found it absolutely hillarious- twas so nice knowing that they were having a fab time. Joyce and I sang together while she played guitar, and I couldn't help thinking how things are gona be away from her when I leave. Every time I thought about leaving her behind , twas not nice. Miss her so much. The girls gave Aman and I each a Goodbye card they'd spent ages making together. I sat them all down and got all of my stuff out that I didn't want to take on my travels with me. I shared out my junk between them, and kept some back for the other kids. They were oober chuffed at each getting a Garfield book! They helped me think of games for the leaving party the following day then gradually, they headed for bed. Joyce stayed to chat and play some music as I tried to finish off my scrapbook.
I was pretty sure that my bed was finally going to give in that night. The bars were strained far enough. But somehow it survived the night. I didn't sleep one wink- not a minute of sleep was had. So was ever so slightly groggy on Wednesday.
