Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Aman and I had put off packing far too long and time was catching up on us- we were actually going to be leaving in less than 24hrs and hadn't really started packing yet!! I didn't want to get out of bed too early cause I wanted the day to go quickly, but i knew we had so much to sort out. I had bags of junk I still had to distibute throughout the school, ie books for the Deaf Department, presents for various teachers- loadsa various crap I had consumed over the past 6 months was needing to be sorted out or chucked. I gave Judy and Artina each presents and Scottish cards since they'd both been amazing and friendly through everything. I gave Catherine my 'Angels and Demons' book, as she enjoyed reading the Da Vinci Code, which I previously leant her. I also gave her a Scottish cooking book as I know she likes to cook with the kids when she gets a chance. I gave a book of "Scottish Songs" to the choir teacher, along with a CD of some of Xite's pieces and some piano music.
After those were given out, I tried to get last min washing done (washing machines broken as usual!) and Aman and I packed a mahoosive cardboard box full of stuff to pass on to next year's gappers.
Aman tried to sort her flight home as it seemed to not be registering online- and I had to suss out my hotel booking as the hotel didn't seem to have any booking from me. Twas all oober stressful but thankfully after much frustration and rushing about between ICT rooms, we sussed it out. We were also both stressing about our leaving party as nothing was really organised yet. Johnston approached me to inform me that we did not have the hall for the night, as the Gymnastics were using it. We couldn't believe he hadn't checked that previously. So we were gona have to cram all of my classes plus the Asrama students in the caffeteria- bonkers. After an oober hectic day- somehow, I've no idea how, but somehow it all came together. I basically decided not to worry about it and just see what happened on the night. Luckily we ended up getting the hall, and we sussed out some entertainment. Only a proportion of the kids turned up, but it was still far more successful that we expected. They had all made a realy effort to dress up and they brought some funky music and loadsa food. Amusingly we had no plates or cups, but the kids came up with the goods and got some from somewhere.
We started with a performance from my 1A class, who had recently won a dancing competition. We then played musical chairs, which was highly amusing cause within seconds, the chairs were all over the place and it was absolute mahem. Luckily Johnston took the liberty of calming everyone down! Since the PA system wasn't working, I had the banterous job of being in charge of the Mega phone, twas great fun- kept speaking into it the wrong way though! Haha.
After some munchies, my amazin 4A class performed 'Strip the Willow' with Leslie leading them all. What a performance. We then got some of the kids- AND Johnston and Teacher Fiona (who kindly attended the party also) to have a go. Twas great fun and they def had a laugh! Finally, Aman and I said a short thank you, presented a prezzie to Johnston, then I invited Joyce on stage to have a little sing song with me. We sang 'Tears in Heaven' and then 'Auld Lang Signe'. Wish I coulda filmed that.
We then put the music up to the max and all had a boogie. Got some snaps of the kids before eventually, after loadsa chit chat and milling about, heading back to the Asrama to spend time with all of those kids.
I was pretty knacked but wanted to make the most of our final night. Everything had been so utterly hectic that day and seemed it was going to continue, but in a good way. The deaf girls bombarded our room and we gave them some pics of us and any leftover stuff we had in our room. We were overwhelmed with gifts from the 2 Ringgit shop- we didn't know what we were gona do with them cause there were far to many to carry home with us. We had to slyly leave some behind. Well past midnight, our room gradually began to empty and I realsied that due to the excitebale kids bouncing on my bed to look at my pics, my bed was well and truly dead. But acht well, it held up pretty well concidering!
I stayed up until the early hours of the morning and actually managed to finish my scrapbok up to date, which was ab fab. I had a few final things to give out, even though it was mega late. I took a couple of kaftans and headed to Florina's dorm to check if she was still awake. She was snoring away, but I decided to wake her instead. When she woke, she was a little startled, and when I offered her my pink kaftan, a look of utter shock cast over her face. I thought it was confusion due to her sleepyness but then she asked "for me?". I said "yes, you can have it" and she couldn't believe it. She was completely amazed that I had given her something and as she examined my face incase I was fibbing, her eyes welled up. I couldn't believe how overwhelmed she was- it was the first thing that really touched me. Knowing that something so small can mean so much to the kids. She hugged me for ages and when she said that she was really gona miss me, that set me off. Didn't really want her to see, so head off to give my next shirt to Lennie. She can't speak much English at all but when I gave it to her, I knew she was over the moon as well. She was pretty shocked too and just gave me the hugest hug and whispered "Terima Kasih Sista"- which meant everything to me at that time. I tip-toed back to my room and tried not to think about how difficult the goodbyes would be the following day. Still not packed or ready to go, i crashed for my final night in my deceased bed.
