Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Soo sleepy today. Can't help just lazing about. So far this week we've pretty much sorted out exactly what we're doing with the deaf camp, I've come up with some ideas for my "Scottish week" and Johnston has asked me to hold an assembly/performance to the school, at the end of April, since April is "English speaking week". So I'm just gona pick a few students from each class to perform what I have taught them throughout the week- i.e Scottish dancing, Scottish Poetry and songs. Also gona make shortbread with each class and got Braveheart to show them if I run outa ideas.
Been sussing out the piano situation again. Basically, Cathrine the deaf teacher has made it clear that if I invest in a new piano or get the current one repaired, it will not be looked after and will soon end up in the same state as the piano is now (cos the head mistress is constantly moving the piano around and it is left open for dust to get in and the humidity causes it to go out tune unless a regulator heater is installed). So I suggested we get an electric one, or even better- train the students how to maintain the current one after we get it fixed. Johnston said he will approach the Principal about it and in the mean time we can use the school's electric piano that is only used for the choir. So I'm gona hopefully be able to bring it the asrama in the evenings for the girls to use. Think it may belong to one of the teachers.
Aman's been having problems sleeping and when we mentioned this to Cathrine, she said we should go for a massage. So we're looking into a local Japanese massage place- not sure when we'll get round to going.
Tomorrow we're going to a local cultural village in Penampang, where we hope to see the local tribe, Kadazans, their dances and a room full of skulls from their head hunting days.
As I'm sure you all know I'm just bursting for Friday night to come- holidays!! Although, school's not exactly a chore at the moment since we have no classes and it's nice to chill out with the kids. Especially over the last couple of days cause even though they're all stressed out about the exams they're having this week- they're also all majorly hyper and smiley cause there's a soft ball team from another school staying in the asrama and using our sports facilities. They are using 2 full girls dorm rooms and I presume 2 boys dorms as well. They're all getting on really well- met for the first time on Monday and have all been playing guitar, singing together and just being typically hyper. The asrama's got a bit of a "summer camp" vibe going on just now.
Johnston's also been pretty friendly this week- told me that there's a special deal on at the cinema tonight so might try and beg Aman to go. Tis annoying for her though cause there's never any English subtitles- all Malaysian.
