Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Class 3A were legends yesterday- way more fun to teach than 1A- the boys are highly amusing. There's one Chinese guy with very similar humour to Roddy's- cracks me up.
Although, sadly there was an injury during the sack race. There was a near fatal fall in the boys team, resulting in a sprained ankle- but the rest of the team ran to his rescue, providing bags of ice from the cafeteria and a bit of over dramatisation. We hada fab game of tug of war on the pitch (overlooked by sleazy builders) but was still banter. When the boys team won, the celebratory response got a bit out of control and Farhan decided to jump onto the football goals and accidentally pulled it onto himself (they were oober heavy)- pinning himself to the ground. At first, he was laughing and I thought he was OK- the boys helped him up etc. But then a few mins later, I realized there was a crowd round him, he was pouring with sweat and obviously trying not to cry- he'd completely crushed his hand and it had a nice blue twinge to it as well as some increasing swellage. Twas nasty so he was swiftly transferred to the medical room.
Last night, Aman and I watched the dress rehearsal for the Drama competition and after, I was asked to give my comments, which I did and the kids listened and responded really well to them. Have to say that the performance was of a far higher standard than I expected, bearing in mind that they only had a couple of weeks to come up with a script, direct and produce it.
This morning we had a bright and early start at 5am to get ready to leave for the competition. There was much frittering about when we arrived and the competition eventually kicked off around 9am.
12 schools had entered, each with a drama around 20 mins long- each portraying a positive moral of some kind.
Our team performed as well as any of us could have wished- they were fab (even the girls dressed as trees). I felt quite guilty, cause at first I really thought the set looked ridiculous- a group of girls dressed as trees etc- but the play really was good. Twas very impressed with Kristy's performance (a girl from my 3A class) as she is such a tom boy and I never realized she was such a fab actor.
However, I gota say there were some stonker performances all round. About 4 of the groups were pretty damn good- a few were like major soap operas and the final drama was OTT contemporary- all about a disturbed girl in a mental asylum, having flashbacks on her abusive past, leading to the murder of her abusive partner- was all a bit strange but I loved it! There was soo much hair pulling as well! She had pig tails in- really long, and most of the way through the drama she was being pulled across the stage by them!
There were lots of real tears in some performances as well, which were quite impressive and a few decent real slaps. All very dramatic.
There was tension in the air as it came to the judges to announcement of the winner and by complete surprise for everyone, Kristy was awarded the prize for best actor. She was soo shocked! The hall was filled with drama Queens, yet she was just so natural and nailed it- so glad she got it. She's not the kinda person to gloat or anything, she was just oober happy and I could see she was mega proud of herself.
Just arrived back from the comp and hit the internet straight away, since I doubt I'll get the chance again while mum and gran are over. So glad its Friday tomorrow! Can't wait!
Hada bout of homesickness last night, which is the first in a while. Just keep thinking bout what I'm gona do when I get back to the UK and how I'm gona fit everything in before I head to uni. But then I stopped to think that I'm not gona be back for almost another 5 moths and I was like- ahh.
Just printed of a couple of poems for tomorrow's Ceilidh- "Address to the Haggis" and "The Sair Finger". Was so funny, cause I translated them into English as well and it's like an entirely different language to Scotts.
Anyways, off to have my final crappy meal for 2+1/2 weeks- woo!! Although, I truly am warming to fish heads- there's more meat on them than you'd think!
