Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Thursday-
Another lazy day. Great to get to see everyone at the Bible Study again. They were studying the book of Hebrews so Aman and I were ever so slightly lost. We ended up trying to answer the question- How can God take the 3 forms- Trinity- the Son, the Father and the Holy Spirit and some really cool metaphors came up. Like how H2O can be in 3 forms- ice, water and steam, and how a clover has 3 leaves and is incomplete without each part. But then the argument came up that- "How can he be all 3 at once"- and again they used the H2O example, saying that it cannot be ice or steam at the same time, etc. We then managed to get into the evolution/creation debate and I really put my foot in it by stating that I was definitely an evolutionist (sly intake of breath around the circle as I said so). So anyway, it was an interesting discussion that night.
And the food was fab as always!
Friday- packed all of my stuff up to send home then headed to KK for a Little Italy. Was quite amusing cause I used my pack to carry all of my stuff + Mr Soo just looked at me in disbelief and said- "Where are you going now??" So I had to explain I was just posting it all home. He must think we're crazy traveling off to various places every few weeks!
The waiters in LI asked us when we will be leaving and said that they're really gona miss us- cute. Used a delivery company that Don from the Bible study recommended and they met me in NBC, helped me pack all of my things into boxes, seal them and took them to the airmail place for me. Cost an arm and a leg but tis the safest way to send everything home. Just hope it all makes it ok! Aman and I then ran various errands, like getting our dresses altered at the tailors, posted post cards and checked out hair dressers for Aman. We then got ourselves looking all pretty and headed for the @mosphere Revolving Restaurant. We were greeted on the door and taken to the 18th floor where our jaws just dropped. It was awesome! So retro, chic and mega oober very classy. Everyone there looked loaded and we started to worry a bit about how much this was gona cost us. It was a bit steep but really not bad at all for the quality of the food and ambience of the place. We started in the funky lounge for cocktails as the sun set- we had a view spreading far over KK, through panoramic windows, which as it got darker, reflected the moody lights and sparkles from inside.
Our cocktails were to die for and the food more so! We had an overly rich meal of chicken with indescribable goings on around and about and inside the bird. The menu was highly amusing with its descriptions of dishes. For example, mine was described as "One sexy bird you can't miss". My desert was just- mm. Twas a chocolate baked thing with a little bit of chili mixed in to give it a kick- and pure melted gooey rich chocolate in the middle-was just divine. Never felt so full after a meal though.
We were both sleepy after such a satisfying meal so took an early night at NBC.
Georgie and her parents invited us for a meal the next day, so we met them for a Little Italy (we ate soo much this weekend!!) Penelope then joined us for a coffee. Aman and I had to head off to meet the teachers at the school cause they were also taking us out for a meal that night! We were stuffed- but had to oblige of course!! So we met them at 4pm and Teacher Su picked us up and took us to a sea food restaurant. Neither Aman and I are fans of seafood, but I thought I might as well be adventurous. So I naively agreed to eating various shell fish, prawns, soft shell crab, sea cucumber and other random things I can't even name. Just typing this up makes me feel sick. Cause after the meal, I woke during the night with a burst of food poisoning- twas really nasty. I was still hot and sticky the next morning and had had little sleep but Aman and I had arranged to meet Pearl and Crystal to go to the Church that morning. So I dragged myself out and they took us to Seutra Harbour (5 star hotel), as their church is held there. Luckily the air con really helped the stomach and I was feeling better in no time.
It was hard not to feel better with the atmosphere around us. It was a special occasion cause of Father's Day and it was the Church's 5th Anniversary so the place was packed, everyone was dressed in their best and all made an effort to greet us. Everyone was so friendly- smiles all round. There was a live band on the stage at the front, who were fab and sang all of the hymns. There were also a group of girls that did modern dancing, which was cool. We sat at the front, behind the Pastors and their wives, who were all exceedingly energetic. One woman was highly amusing. At first she was jingling her tambourine and shouting "Amen" and when I next looked she was dancing around with a big flag and singing, then next, she was blowing a massive buffalo horn thing. It was so funny. Maybe you had to be there! She was a happy chappy though. And the Pastors in front of us were jumping like ska fans. It was a lively service to say the least, with an outside speaker from Singapore, who cracked some smashin jokes. The senior Pastor studied medicine at Oxford and had quite an English accent- the service was luckily all in English.
Had refreshments after, then Pearl and Crystal's mum invited Aman and I to join them for a meal at a different 5 star hotel. Don and his wife, along with a few people from the Bible Study group met us at the hotel and it was really nice. There was a real family atmosphere and the food was awesome. Twas a buffet with "make your own" pasta dishes and stuff. Like you could just tell the chef anything you wanted. Aman and I couldn't believe we were devouring another rich meal!
Headed back to the Asrama and got a game of Basketball going with the deaf kids. Twas banter- it started pissing it down half way through, which made it even better. Felt a bit of a cheat being the only one with trainers on- everyone else was in bare feet. Managed to actually score some baskets- soon realized how unfit I am though- had to bail out and get some water during the match! Think the kids really enjoyed themselves.
That night I got a laptop so that we could watch a DVD with Meza and Joyce but it didn't have the right function so just listened to some music before heading to the land of nod.
Monday- another week begins and its back to the 'departure countdown'. Not as sincerely or desperate as in previous weeks but it is only 10 days until we leave now so we're getting a teeny bit excited! No classes again today but it's given me the chance to get various things sorted. Informed my 2A class that they have GAP tomorrow, talked to Johnston about our leaving doo and he's now on the case, arranged my next dance rehearsal with 4A, chilled and watched a DVD with Aman and have now finished my postcards up to date. So tomorrow I'll try to get the scrapbook done- keep puting that one off. Also got my first birthday card- thanks Clairie! Don't worry, I won't open it until Saturday!
Right, off to eat some of the yummy shortbread that the Bible Study gals gave us.
