Crew Frivolous
Today we began probably one of the more adventurous legs of our journey....The Old Telegraph Track.
We left Bramwell Station at 9:20 and fuelled up at Bramwell Junction paying $2.10 per litre.
I must say we were a bit surprised by how narrow the track was.
The first crossing and the one we looked at yesterday was Palm Creek. It was an adrenalin rush for all of us drivers and passengers. But it was only the beginning.
Next was Ducie Creek with one of these tricky ford entries. I think that means that it doesn't really flow and has a very steep entry. This was a cracker of a challenge. Martin and Jenny went through first with no hassles, followed by Joe and Jen where we all held our breath for a few moments as the camper tipped onto a very precarious angle.
Next up was Col and Wendy and as you will see by the pics Col needed a hand with this as the front wheel lifted up too high and Martin and Joe had to snatch them out. Quite a moment for Wendy.
Marcus and Ang came in very slow and steady after Cols effort. Mart did a great job guiding everyone through and safe to say that we all got out unscathed. And just to prove that we did it, we girls ceremoniously signed the tree at the top of the crossing. Next was the North Alice Creek, Dulhunty River and then Bertie.
Bertie had quite a steep entry and as with all the other crossings the guys had to get out and walk them first. We had to drive along the side of the creek and pick a good line to cross. There were a few good holes and we did hear later on from other 4WDers that a guy ended up going straight through and broke a tie rod end...Silly fellow.
Cholomondeley was next followed by the Gunshot and from everything that we had all read this was going to be one of the toughest if not one of the most difficult.
But that wasn't our worry...
Guess who was there? Yes it was our cheeky little friends from Ingham again and boy had they
got themselves into a wee bit of a bother to say the least...actually they were in deep ****.
They had tried a vertical drop and there it stayed. Lucky we had some very wise and resourceful thinkers in amongst our happy little campers.
And by putting all their heads together and enlisting the help of another old mate and his vehicle. Marts Nissan and winch, Marcus with the counter leaver, Col on the brake,(beautiful brake foot) and Joe running from left to right making sure everything was good. And with a lot of oomf and sweat we got em out.
After such an ordeal well not for us but for the Inghams we decided to set up camp at the Gunshot, if not for anything else a bit of entertainment to watch others make an attempt.
It was a great little camp spot and a beautiful swimming hole.
