Crew Frivolous
It was our turn to leave Fraser Island today. We have had a great week and one I will remember always. We had to be out of the park by 10am but low tide wasn't until mid arvo so we drove as far as we could.
We waited for and hour and a half at Eli Creek before Es and Joe could cross safely and dryly then we continued on up the beach. Joe D was stopped by the police for a random breath test. He passed no worries!! We travelled further up the beach to where the rocks were near Eurong. The tide was still too high so after talking to a local we headed around the bypass.
We kept driving until we reached the line up for the barge. Didn't have to wait too long and we were on. The barge guy told us the people behind us didn't make it on board, they were bogged!! Oh no, it was Es & Joe!!! We couldn't even open our car doors to go and help. The barge guy lent them some maxx tracks and left them there for the next barge. We kept in touch via the cb's and they were able to get onto the next one.
On the other side we waited and checked out our options to exit as MANY vehicles were bogged. Joe & Es followed a tour bus of the barge at break neck speed and made it through!!! They were going SOOO fast and swaying so bad I thought they were going to crash.........
We took the easier option and crawled up the beach and crossed the last 30m quite easily. We headed into Rainbow Beach where we fuelled up and put air in the tyres before heading around to the under body car and van wash.
Drove to Gympie where we said our goodbyes to Es and Joe and thanked them for coming such a long way for such a quick trip (we planned this Fraser Island trip with them about 2 years ago and were so pleased that we were able to combine both the Cape York and Fraser Island trips)
On our own now for the first time in about 10 weeks. Back in the car on the Bruce Highway heading south, chatting about our amazing adventures. First stop, The Ettamogah Pub at Palmview of course ha ha. When we left there we drove about 6km to a free roadside camp at Landsborough and pulled in for the night.
