Crew Frivolous
6th, 7th & 8th September
Today we left Yeppoon heading for Boyne Island near Gladstone to catch up with our dear friends Peter and Kate Tregaskis and their three beautiful children Tom, Elly and Tristen. I was so excited to catch up with them as we haven't seen them for ten years. We had to catch up on shopping so we went to Rockhampton and filled up on the usual staples (alcohol). Then heading to Gladstone we had a rather uneventful trip.
When we got to Gladstone we went for a bit of a tour around and found a beautiful park at the Marina to have lunch and then the boys wanted to have a fish so we found a river near the power station of Gladstone. We then went to Auckland Hill Lookout for a quick look. We got to Pete and Kate's at about 5.00pm and it was so nice to see them all and introduce Jenny and Joe to them. Kate and Pete cooked a beautiful dinner and then we watched Hawthorn and Freemantle play football. It was weird to watch TV but had the most wonderful night.
The next day was so much fun. Peter took us for a tour of Gladstone and the industry around the area. The boys were fascinated but the girls couldn’t understand a word they were talking about. There is only so many hours Jenny could play with her phone. After lunch we picked up Kate and went out to this amazing Island that Kate and Pete look after a property at. It was so beautiful and peaceful.
There were markets on in Boyne Island so we went for a look but after having a look the boys had really had enough and wanted to get back for a beer. Peter and I stuffed a fish for tea and put it on the barbeque. Again after tea we watched the Collingwood Carlton elimination final and it finally got the better of Colin and he sat outside by a fire. Collingwood lost and Jenny and Colin weren’t happy.
The 8th was our last day with Pete and Kate and I was feeling a little sad that we had to leave and say goodbye. Pete and the boys got the boat ready and we went out to Awoonga Lake for a fish and a swim. After once again not catching a fish we went for an amazing swim just all dived overboard. The water was crystal clear.
After lunch it was time to say goodbye. It was a hard farewell and promised that it wouldn’t be another ten years before we saw each other again.
We had heard a lot of the beach town of 1770 so we decided to head there for the night. We came across this beautiful national park called Deepwater. It was a sandy track in but we had no problems getting there. We stayed at Middle Rock campground but after a walk down the beach it was time to cook tea as it was getting dark. A very pretty place and if we had a few more days up our sleeves it would have been easy to stay another night.
