Crew Frivolous
We had no trouble deciding to leave Borroloola this morning as
1: The park was a bit creepy and 2: We needed BEER!!
We phoned ahead to Burketown in Queensland to check if they had sites in the caravan park and also to find out if their town had any alcohol restrictions. Luckily for us they had a pub with no restrictions.
We crossed the border into Queensland (the 6th state/territory that we've visited this trip).
Col was leading today and we sat quite a way back as the road was quite dusty. We were all cruising along at a decent speed when Col came on the radio and told us to be very careful at the next corner. As they had come around the corner the turtle fell into a massive sand trap. The turtle was going way too fast and bounced all over the place and left behind a massive dust cloud. This was still there when we rounded the corner at an extremely slow pace. We couldn't see at all the dust was so thick.
After driving the 500km (we’re not desperate ha ha) we arrived in Burketown. Did a drive around and discovered there was not much here. Went to the pub and restocked our depleted supplies. All slabs of beer (heavy, mid and light) were $70 each and only came in stubbies. Bottles of wine were $20 each and cider was a staggering $80 per slab.
We asked the couple behind the bar about a supermarket and were told there wasn’t one. The town has a bakery, a butcher and a post office which is where you also buy your fruit and veggies but they are not open on the weekends. We must be in never never land!!
