TUESDAY 1st September We left Mt Isa at 8am heading for Birdsville. Joe and I were a bit excited as Melissa and Shayne along with Daryl and Rilla were meeting us there tomorrow. We heard from them quite early on that they were in Coober Pedy and that it had rained all night and the road they were intending to travel on was closed. Day 1 Today we left Lawn Hill which was rather sad as it was so peaceful and quiet. The thought of 8000 people at Birdsville was a bit daunting. We travelled a dirt road for about 300 kilometers which was a bit rough on the old cars. We stopped on the road to collect fire wood for Birdsville as apparently you have to take it all in. Day 1 - 27th Aug A little back tracking today, we are heading south west to Lawn Hill National Park. This was a fairly uninteresting drive through the large cattle properties of northern QLD. We stopped at Gregory Down for a counter meal at the pub. Three chicken schnitzels with salad and one calamari with salad plus beer and we were on our way again. We arrived at Lawn Hill campsite mid-afternoon and went to the Ranger Station to organise sites for the night....

Karumba 23-26 August Before leaving Burketown a quick wash of the vehicles was in order. Some of the red dust had to go. A relatively easy drive today in the order of 200kms. We had no trouble deciding to leave Borroloola this morning as 1: The park was a bit creepy and 2: We needed BEER!! We phoned ahead to Burketown in Queensland to check if they had sites in the caravan park and also to find out if their town had any alcohol restrictions.
