Crew Frivolous
Today we were being picked up at 7am to go on our sailing adventure around the beautiful Whitsundays Islands. We had chosen to go on the Camira which is an 85 foot catamaran. The cat is able to carry about 100 passengers but we only had about 32 on board which made it so much easier to move around.
The weather was perfect for sailing, with a nice breeze. We departed Able Point Marina under motor at 8am and headed off towards the islands. The crew put up the sails as soon as they could and we were underway. It was an awesome way to cruise the islands.
We sailed past Daydream and Hook Islands and dropped anchor at Border Island. Those that wanted to snorkel jumped in to the tender and were taken over towards the reef. We jumped in one at a time and snorkelled around for about an hour. There were many species of fish to be seen and quite a lot of different coral too. It was really cool.
Back on the Camira we had a BBQ lunch and made our way to Whitsunday Island and the magnificent Whitehaven Beach. The sand there is snow white and so very soft. They say that no matter how hot the day is the sand never gets hot.
We went back to the yacht and started to make our way back to the marina under sail. The crew were egging the skipper on and as there was a fairly nice breeze they got the big cat up to 20.4 knots. They were all whooping and cheering which was contagious and had the passengers cheering too. We jumped onto the waiting buses and were back at the park around 6.30pm. We had a fabulous day!!
