Up at 7.30am and walked down to the Arndale Centre for breakfastas it was not included in our hotel price.
Walked down to Market Street Metro stop and caught 9.30am train to Old Trafford station. Walked 5 minutes past Lancashire Cricket Ground which was a mess after the Oasis Concert the night before to Old Trafford.
We paid for our tour (£8.50 each) and started our tour at 10.20am. The tour took us around the stands, change rooms, dugouts and even down the tunnel onto the ground although you were never allowed on the ground itself. A tour group of New Zealanders were threatened with being thrown out when one of their group leant over and touched the grass! Finished the tour, which was excellent, at 11.20 and walked through the museum and trophy rooms before having a coffee at Legend's cafe in the museum.
Walked down to Salford Quays area to see The Lowry, Imperial War Museum and Outlet Shopping Centre which was very cheap but we didn't need anything. The Lowry was nothing special, theatres and an art gallery which was free but a donation was requested. We decided to give it a miss. Went over to the Imperial War Museum and had a look around. Lots of space and not much in it, coupled with some bizarre audiovisual displays made it a bit of a let down. Walked back to Old Trafford Metro stop and caught train back to St.Peter's Square.
Looked around St.Peter's Square and took a few pictures before having a coffee at Starbucks. Walked back to hotel for a rest.
Decided to eat at the 'restaurant' downstairs at the hotel then watch Birmingham vs Aston Villa on the TV. Had dinner at 6.30pm and sat on the couch downstairs waiting for the soccer to come on. We were told they could not start the TV until the game had actually started..reasons unknown. So we waited, dinner came but we were told we had to move to a table to eat it. Immediately lost our seat on the couch as a few groups of people arrived noticing the soccer was on!
Ate our meal which was OK and quite cheap then waited like vultures for the couch to become vacant. Finally 5 minutes before kick-off they left and we got our spot on the couch and watched the game. Birmingham won 3-0 and we went back to our room for some sleep.
