We set off for Perth this morning on the train. We bought a $4.40 ticket each (senior citizens) and used it as a rover ticket for the bus, train and ferry! Bargain! We mooched around Perth in the morning, had a snack and then caught the ferry to south Perth, about a 15 minute ride.
We disembarked and walked to the zoo. Managed to get in as senior citizens again which saved us $8. The zoo wasn't the best I have seen and we didn't see tigers, zebras or some of the other animals - their cages appeared to be empty. But we saw lots of meerkats, a large crocodile and of course some kangaroos and koalas. We must have walked around for at least two and a half hours but luckily it wasn't too hot.
After we got back to Perth City we caught a train down to Fremantle which passes by the famous Subiaco Oval. Last time we were in Perth in 1992 we went to watch an Aussie rules football match but we won't be this time!
Friday night in Fremantle was heaving with people. The restaurants were busy, most people eating 'al fresco' because it was quite a balmy evening, very different to last night! We had a pizza and then managed to find a bus back to Kardinya where Monica lives.
