We set off at 8:45 this morning and drove to the hills. Behind Perth is the Darling Range. It is an escarpment formed millions of years ago by a fault and is made up of granodiorite rocks. The Lesmurdie Falls have been formed by erosion and are quite spectacular in winter. In summer however there is no water but still fairly spectacular to see.

We walked to the bottom of the falls and climbed a little way up to a lookout but the path was a little overgrown in places and steep. So we drove round the other side and walked to the top of the falls. From here we had a good view down the valley of the waterfall and could see Perth in the distance on the coastal plain.

We then drove through forest and came to Mundaring weir. The reservoir supplies the drinking water for Perth.

We stopped in Kalamunda for a drink as Mick wanted to look at the town but it had changed out of all recognition in the time since he came back to England.

Driving down from the hills it wasn't long before we met all the traffic in Perth going every which way! We passed through Mayland where Mick lived for a time. Here there are still old houses built in the old colonial style but many of them have been demolished and replaced by modern styles. Such a shame as the old houses have a real charm about them.
