This is a fantastic anchorage. We knew our friends from our yard Des and Anne were going there so we made a plan to join them. It was so warm and peaceful there we spent 2 nights. The water was 21 degrees so we swam, had a meal on each other's boats and walked round the island. There we saw a huge herd of fallow Deer and on the way back Brenda only just avoided stepping on to an Adder that was sunbathing on a rock

After being out at anchor for a few nights we needed food Utö looked a good choice, on our way, a shop and a nature reserve island. The harbour can take 300 yachts. Unfortunately it was full, but we found an anchorage just below the town and we took the Dinghy ashore. We enjoyed a good walk and got a few bits and pieces from the shop. Paradise as its known, could have been but for the small thing, over 100 yachts at anchor and some bloke building a cabin on an island banging in nails all evening. It is a large bay so not really a problem fitting everyone in. We don't see many yacht from the states but there were 2 lovely ones at anchor here. We had a light wind sail back to Sweden 38 miles. We had some fun flying our Parasilor sail, we have been carting around and not using, the problem is it takes time to set up and with short trips I think it takes up more space than it is worth. E anchored for the night in a quite spot recommended by Mike.

A great sail in company with Des and Anne to Visby 43 nm. Visby is the capital of Gotland and a big ferry port. It is extremely popular with its walled city and lovely cobbled streets, there are down sides. The Marina is twice the price with poor facilities. It's also a stretch of the imagination to call it a safe harbour as its open to SW so we get a constant swell coming in. We have stopped for 2 nights but may stay another because we are expecting strong winds...
