Soongies' Great Adventure
Calvin and Kate made their way from Maidenhead to London for a brief 2 night stay in this great city. John kindly drove us to the train station in Maidenhead where we bought Day Travel Cards which meant we could travel on the rail, tube, trams and buses. It was between on-peak and off-peak by this time (9:30 am) and our cards were off-peak travel but we somehow ended up on the on-peak express train to Paddington Station - not illegally though as we did check with the station officer! This meant we made it to London earlier than expected and caught the tube down to Tooting Bec where we surprised Vicki (who had been busy cleaning the house in her pyjamas) at her huge share house. We put our stuff in the spare room where they kindly let us sleep for our short stint in (surprisingly sunny) London. It was great catching up with Vicki. We met Vicki 5 years ago in Geraldton where she worked as a podiatrist at the hospital and was there when Calvin and Kate started going out! There are so many things to do in London it was hard to know where to start! But before we could get out to see the sights, Kate enrolled Vicki and her podiatry skills in her quest for altering her new shoes for maximum comfort. So Vicki got to work (on her day off) on Kate's feet and shoes to see if any alterations would be effective in making it a more comfortable fit - for an hour... and a half! Once the shoes were somewhat sorted, we went off to find some lunch. We went to Sticks'n'Sushi in Covent Garden as Kate and Calvin were craving some Japanese food and Vicki was happy to eat anything. It was really good and fresh but a little pricey so we decided to have a food crawl around the west end as we really only had entree (edamame, miso salmon and chicken yakitori, avocado rolls, chicken maki and salmon maki). By this time, Kate decided her shoes weren't good anymore (not due to Vicki's lack of trying) so it was off for more shoe shopping (not exactly the number 1 activity to do on TripAdvisor in London), looking at a couple of outdoor shops. No luck though. Next stop was Viet for some pho - Vicki's first experience of Vietnamese food was good, especially on a chilly day. We decided to move on and we walked about 10 metres before we saw some delicious Asian buns in the window of another restaurant. So we went in and had a custard egg tart, Chinese sugared donut and a coconut roll. They weren't the freshest so we headed off in search of a hot drink and proper pudding before we were due at the Prince Edward Theatre for Aladdin! Vicki led us to The Porcupine. A pub which had drinks and where we shared two amazing desserts! Rhubarb, plum and cherry crumble with creamy custard and also a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream! On to the theatre for our show! Aladdin was shining, shimmering and splendid (recognise those words?)! It was great to see a childhood favourite come to life and the genie was hilarious! It was back home after a full day. Before bed, Kate did some online shopping at home and bought 2 new shoes to be delivered to John and Linda's in Maidenhead to trial. At this rate, we should really be focusing on a footwear specific blog!

kentishclan Seriously Kate... what is with your feet? Are you a mutant? Do you have extra toes or hobbit tootsies? I ordered my Teva Riva hiking boots online... by just measuring the length of my foot - no try on for fit. Then walked in them for 6 months straight through humid 30C+ down to -15C in snow and on glaciers. I hope one of the pairs you bought online are Teva's... I strongly recommend them! You can get the ones with 'thinsulate' lining which is waterproof (but still lets your feet breathe) and keeps out the cold so you don't have to wear mega thick itchy thermal socks!
Amanda Hope you get your shoes sorted out once and for all Kate .
