Soongies' Great Adventure
Day 2 in London started with a morning snuggle with Vicki. Kate loves snuggles and decided the more the merrier. Whilst Kate and Vicki were chatting away, Calvin was looking up for things to do for the morning. A spontaneous decision was made to go up to the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street. Entry is free but you have to reserve a ticket online beforehand. It was 9:30 am and there were 2 available tickets for 10:30 am and 1 for 10:45 am (sometimes there are no tickets for weeks!) so it was a mad rush to get ready then catch the tube but we made it by 10:35 am and we all got to go up to the 35th floor together! The Sky Garden is pretty cool - it's a cafe and bar (with an indoor garden) with a great view over London City - and what a view it was with a perfectly sunny and clear day. We wandered around checking out the view and, of course, had some food - drinks (healthy vegetable and fruit smoothies) and cake (white chocolate and raspberry muffin, blueberry muffin, caramel and pecan cake). We then went to yum cha on Baker Street - certainly not the best food or service we've ever had but it was still good. We were a bit shocked when the bill came as the plate of gai lan (Chinese broccoli) cost us $20!!! We had allowed ourselves about half an hour to get to the Apollo Victoria Theatre for the 2:30 pm performance of Wicked. Unfortunately the tube had some delays so we arrived at the theatre at about 2:35 so we missed the first few minutes and then we had to stand at the back behind glass of the stalls to watch the first 25 mins before we got to sit in our proper seats! Wicked was amazing - the sets, costumes and the singing! Would highly recommend it! All 3 of us then went to an icecream cafe - Gelupo - to meet up with some of Calvin's friends from Sydney - Jay and Sylvia. On the way, we really got to see what central London was like at rush hour! Crazy! It was good for Calvin to catch up with Jay and Sylvia as he hadn't seen them for years! And Vicki enjoyed her hot chocolate. And then it was time for our Geraldton reunion dinner at an Indonesian restaurant - Nusa Dua - in Soho. There were 7 of us there - Liz, Georgia, Olivia, Laura, Cam, Calvin and Kate. It felt like we were having dinner together in Gero! The only mishap was that one of the waiters spilt mango juice all over Laura and Cam! It was a really fun night apart from that! After dinner we took the tube home and had a chat with Vicki and her friend who was also staying the night. We also delivered some delicious pastries from Patisserie Valerie to Vicki as a thank you gift for letting us stay - she was very excited!
