Our last day in Mombasa (and in Africa) consisted of packing, trying to change our remaining NAD 110 at various bureau de changes (but failing – no one wants Namibian Dollars), seeing the Tusks of Mombasa and eating Chinese food (again)! It also involved eating our last 40 cent fresh mango and drinking our last $2.20 mango shake It's the 47^th day of travelling since we left Australia. Our last full day on the African continent! And what's more, it was Kenya's Jamhuri Day (Independence Day)! This means it was a public holiday for the people in Kenya. To celebrate, we decided to eat breakfast downstairs. A $2 Spanish omelette with bread wasn't a typical Kenyan breakfast, but it sure gave Calvin and Kate a good start for the day's adventures. It was a very early start this morning as they didn't know how long it would take to get from Arusha to Nairobi due to Nairobi's unpredictable and usually terrible traffic! We explored Ngorongoro Crater today. Because the entry into the crater is via a very steep and narrow track, we left the truck behind for some Landcruisers to take us into the crater. From the top of the crater, the view is pretty breathtaking. Ngorongoro Crater is basically the caldera of a volcano - fortunately, an inactive volcano! It's a paradise in the crater, even the animals seem relaxed! On our journey around the crater we came across the usual suspects...
