Soongies' Great Adventure
Fiona was off today so we got to have a lovely day with her and Barnaby. We drove to Beeston Castle but, unfortunately, the castle was closed (until March!) so we weren't able to climb to the top to see the view but we ended up going for a walk around the countryside and through the woods to Peckferton Castle. The castle has now turned into a very impressive hotel – don’t think we could afford to stay there! The walk was very pleasant, even though it was a bit cold (and extremely windy) and muddy at times. After the walk we had lunch at the Pheasant Inn. It was very nice to be in the warmth of the pub especially with steak and ale pie and a Welsh lamb hotpot to devour! We then drove into Chester where we had a wander around – Fiona picked up her beanie and Kate had a look for socks. Kate decided she could live in Chester! We stopped at Waitrose on the way home – such a huge supermarket (although it does look bigger on the outside). There was even a juicing station in the supermarket which Calvin and Fiona utilised! Fiona had heard that you could get free coffee when you shopped around Waitrose so she lined up for one but then found out that you got a cup when you paid for the shopping. She was hanging out for a coffee so she was glad when we got to the till only to find out that you had to be a Waitrose member to get the cup for the coffee! Fiona wasn’t a member… yet. Then it was back home – Calvin made chicken and sweet corn soup for dinner.
